York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division I action:
The Mustangs of South Western (4-6 overall, 3-3 YAIAA Division I) defeated the Squires of Delone Catholic (5-5 overall, 4-2 YAIAA Division III) 24-7 in independent action. Robert Barnett led the Mustangs rushing attack with 44-yards, followed by Aaron Repman with 33-yards and Cody Smith with 24-yards, including a 16-yard touchdown. Repman also returned a kickoff for 85-yards, setting up a 20-yard field goal by Drew Snyder (who, as a junior, has already set a new school record for field goals in a career with 12). Snyder’s 43 punts for 1,713-yards gives him a season average of 39.8-yards, qualifying him for the “Keystone Club” at the Pennsylvania Football News web site. Barnett also had an interception and Snyder returned an interception for 30-yards. Snyder also caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from J. C. Laughlin and Jeremy Renoll blocked a punt and picked it up and ran it in for a 15-yard touchdown Renoll had 10 sacks for the season, qualifying him for the “Keystone Club,” and 21 for his career, coming in second to the school career record of 23 set by Zack Topper. Matt Bosley’s 12 tackles gave him 101 for the season, qualifying him for the “Keystone Club.” Joe Sorice led the Squires rushing attack with 18-yards, including a 2-yard touchdown. Backup quarterback Christopher Burton completed 8 of 29 passes for 161-yards, including 6 passes for 98-yards to Tyler Hagarman, and starter Seth Grim completed 2 of 5 for 21-yards for the Squires.
The undefeated Panthers of Central York (10-0 overall, 6-0 YAIAA Division I) shut out the Colonials of New Oxford (3-7 overall, 2-4 YAIAA Division I) 27-0. Shane Gilbert led the Panthers with 66-yards rushing and Eric Schwartz rushed for 62-yards, including touchdowns of 22 and 33-yards, and completed 8 passes for 79-yards, including a 12-yard touchdown to Jon Shuff (who caught 2 passes for 42-yards). Alex Smith led the Colonials with 35-yards rushing and his twin brother Adam added 20 more yards. Alex also completed 5 passes for 74-yards (3 of which went to Richard Stover for 59-yards). The Panthers will host the Thundering Herd of Carlisle (8-2 overall, 6-2 Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division) in a quarterfinal District 3 class AAAA match on November 12.
The Lions of Red Lion (5-5 overall, 4-2 YAIAA Division I) defeated the Wildcats of Dallastown (1-9 overall, 1-5 YAIAA Division I) 35-14. Matt Barshinger rushed for 220-yards, including touchdowns of 42, 2 and 63-yards, and caught 2 passes for 31-yards, including a 27-yard touchdown strike from Taylor Green (who completed 10 passes for 132-yards) for the Lions. Ed Kiser caught 5 passes for 75-yards and Andrew Downs scored on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Green. Downs also recorded 2 quarterback sacks on defense. Kyle O’Donnell led the Wildcats with 65-yards rushing, including a 5-yard touchdown; Nick Bentz added 37-yards rushing, and Zach Shue completed 10 passes for 101-yards, including a 14-yard touchdown to Robert Donatelli. The Wildcats also caught Taylor Green in the end zone for a safety.
The Rockets of Spring Grove (5-5 overall, 3-3 YAIAA Division I) edged the Bearcats of William Penn (5-5 overall, 3-3 YAIAA Division I) 20-19. Cory Baker’s 34-yard field goal with 31 seconds left in the game was the game winner (he also kicked a 28-yarder earlier). Mike Langer rushed for 94-yards, including a 3-yard touchdown; Erik Brough rushed for 49-yards, and Matt Marshall completed 15 passes for 151-yards, including a 53-yard touchdown to Langer (who caught 3 passes for 65-yards), for the Rockets. Justin Seibert had 2 key interceptions for the Rockets. Lamar Hughes rushed for 119-yards, including touchdowns of 5 and 25-yards, Shavell Jones rushed for 47-yards, and Randale Preston rushed for 21-yards, including a 2-yard touchdown, for the Bearcats.

The undefeated Warriors of Susquehannock (10-0 overall, 6-0 YAIAA Division II) scalped the Rams of Kennard-Dale (4-6 overall, 2-4 YAIAA Division II) 35-7. Chaz Powell rushed for 254-yards (taking him over 1,000-yards for the season), including touchdowns of 74 and 98-yards, and caught 2 passes for 35-yards; Justin Markel rushed for 60-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown, and caught 3 passes for 40-yards; Joe Mummert rushed for 49-yards, including a 13-yard touchdown, and Andy McCoy completed 6 passes for 123-yards, including a 48-yard touchdown to Mummert, for the Warriors. Craig Colvin led the Rams with 93-yards rushing, followed by Mike Green with 45-yards and Justin Boland with 40. Boland also completed 7 passes for 95-yards, including a 17-yard touchdown to Colvin. The Warriors have earned home field advantage in the first District 3 class AAA playoff game in school history. They will host the Warriors of Gettysburg (8-2 overall, 4-2 Mid-Penn Keystone Division) November 11 for a quarterfinal game.
The Eagles of Dover (4-6 overall, 4-2 YAIAA Division II) edged the Bulldogs of West York (4-6 overall, 3-3 YAIAA Division II) 13-10. Mike Stough led the Eagles with 129-yards rushing, including a 2-yard touchdown; Brandon Beck rushed for 53-yards, including a 15-yard touchdown; Colt Zorilla completed 3 passes for 22-yards, and Beck had 2 key interceptions. Ed Wintermyers led the Bulldogs with 65-yards rushing; Dakota Kessler rushed for 10-yards, including a 2-yard touchdown; Rob Estep completed 10 passes for 192-yards, and Nate Harmer kicked a 37-yard field goal. Bulldogs coach Terry Bupp is retiring after a 33-year coaching career, with 24 years as a head coach. His record is 154-97-3 and includes 8 YAIAA division crowns, 7 trips to the district 3 playoffs (winning districts twice) and 2 trips to the PIAA playoffs. We certainly wish him all the best.
The Irish of York Catholic (1-9 overall, 1-5 YAIAA Division II) shut out the Golden Knights of Eastern York (0-10 overall, 0-6 YAIAA Division II) 25-0. Sean Johnston led the Irish with 40-yards rushing (his one carry resulted in a touchdown), followed by Nick Falci with 34-yards, Donald Wilson with 31-yards, Chris Reagan with 30-yards (including a 24-yard touchdown), and Seth Hake with a 17-yard touchdown jaunt. Quarterback Scott Lehman rushed for 11-yards and completed 7 passes for 88-yards, including a 9-yard touchdown to Johnston and 3 passes for 35-yards to Falci. The Golden Knights had minus yards rushing and Mike Kraft completed 9 passes for 72-yards, including 3 for 30-yards to Zac Seitz, 2 for 16-yards to Chad Richardson, 2 for 15-yards to Evan Brenneman and 2 for 11-yards to Ian Melhorn.
The Trojans of York Suburban (9-1 overall, 5-1 YAIAA Division II) edged the Raiders of Twin Valley (2-8-0 overall, 2-2-0 Berks Inter-County 2) 27-21 in overtime in independent action. Brandon Snyder led the Trojans with 95-yards rushing, including touchdowns of 3 and 7-yards, and Joe Merkle scored on a 1-yard run. Merkle also completed 6 passes for 41-yards and Snyder threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Derrick Bass (who caught 3 passes for 79-yards). John Kreuer helped neutralize the Raiders passing game with 2 key interceptions for the Trojans. Shawn Wilkinson rushed for 98-yards, including a 5-yard touchdown, and Darris Cohick completed 11 passes for 215-yards, including a 29-yard touchdown to Max Motkowski (who caught 8 passes for 163-yards) and an 18-yard touchdown to Sean Carver (who caught 2 passes for 33-yards) for the Raiders. As the number 6 seed, the Trojans will visit the Muhls of Muhlenberg (8-2 overall, 3-1 Berks Inter-County 1) for a first round District 3 class AAA playoff game.
York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division III action:
The Thunderbolts of Littlestown (9-1 overall, 6-0 YAIAA Division III) defeated the Nighthawks of Hanover (4-6 overall, 3-3 YAIAA Division III) 28-7. Nate Rolon rushed for 88-yards, including touchdowns of 8 and 18-yards, caught 3 passes for 36-yards and had 2 interceptions for the Thunderbolts. Zach Beaver completed 4 passes for 91-yards, including a 29-yard touchdown to Tim Lookingbill, and Luke Reichert scored a touchdown on a 1-yard run for the Thunderbolts. Chris Tarbart rushed for 45-yards and Matt Trish added 29-yards more for the Nighthawks. Quarterback Nic Shirey completed 14 passes for 112-yards and scored a touchdown on a 15-yard run for the Nighthawks. The Thunderbolts will visit the Bubblers of Boiling Springs (10-0 overall, 7-0 Mid-Penn Capital Division) in the quarterfinal round of District 3 class AA playoff action on November 11.
The Eagles of Bermudian Springs (7-3 overall, 5-1 YAIAA Division III) shut out the Canners of Biglerville (3-7 overall, 2-4 YAIAA Division III) 48-0. Junior Ryan Spahr rushed for 166-yards, including touchdowns of 7, 7, 33 and 26-yards; Tyler Smith rushed for 100-yards; Brian Ford rushed for 96-yards, including touchdowns of 7 and 56-yards; Mark Blecher scored a touchdown on a 6-yard run, and Davey Zaminski completed 6 passes for 95-yards (including 2 for 66-yards to Jeff Frantz and 3 for 20-yards to Spahr) for the Eagles. Zach Dittmar, with 27-yards, and Ryan Wagaman with 21-yards, led the Canners rushing attack. Wagaman also completed 2 passes for 9-yards.
The Spartans of York County Tech (3-7 overall, 1-5 YAIAA Division III) defeated the Knights of Fairfield (2-8 overall, 0-6 YAIAA Division III) 24-8. Justin Brown rushed for 134-yards, including touchdowns of 1 and 24-yards, Juan Torres scored on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Kevin Stump, and Steve VanVrijaldenhoven kicked a 37-yard field goal for the Spartans. Corey Staples led the Knights rushing attack with 57-yards, including a 5-yard touchdown, and Robby Potts completed 8 passes for 41-yards. The Knights also registered a safety when Stump fell on a bad snap in the end zone.
Adams or York County Mid-Penn action:
The Warriors of Gettysburg (8-2 overall, 4-2 Mid-Penn Keystone Division) were upset by the Cougars of Palmyra (7-3 overall, 4-2 Mid-Penn Keystone Division) 26-21. Derek Fackler rushed for 164-yards, including a 20-yard touchdown; Jon Garver completed 12 passes for 147-yards, including touchdowns of 8, 56 and 14-yards to Mason Chandler (who caught 6 passes for 110-yards) for the Cougars. R. J. VanBrakle led the Warriors rushing attack with 31-yards and Evan Lewis completed 14 passes for 215-yards, including touchdowns of 10 and 2-yards to Terrill Barnes (who caught 7 passes for 91-yards) and 35-yards to Brad Thompson (who caught 2 passes for 55-yards). The Warriors of Gettysburg will travel to the Warriors of Susquehannock November 11 for a District 3 class AAA quarterfinal playoff game.
The Polar Bears of Northern York (8-2 overall, 6-0 Mid-Penn Colonial Division) defeated the Mustangs of West Perry (6-4- overall, 3-3 Mid-Penn Colonial Division) 35-20. Mike Romagnoli rushed for 111-yards, including touchdowns of 3 and 3-yards; Colby Betz completed 7 passes for 244-yards, including touchdown passes of 25 and 49-yards to Corey Betz (who caught 4 passes for 138-yards); Dane Eichelberger scored on a 3-yard run, and Chad Halterman caught 3 passes for 105-yards for the Polar Bears. Ibrahim Smith, Inserted at QB just last weekend, dashed for 114 yards, including touchdowns of 37 and 12-yards, and passed for 122 more yards for the Mustangs. Mike Scott, who scored on a 5-yard run, caught 4 passes for 75-yards for the Mustangs. The Polar Bears have qualified for the District 3 class AAA playoffs as the 8th seed and will visit the Falcons of Lower Dauphin (9-1 overall, 6-0 Mid-Penn Keystone Division) in the quarterfinal round.
Patriots of Red Land (3-7 overall, 2-5 Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division) edged the Panthers of Central Dauphin East (0-10 overall, 0-8 Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division) 21-14. Like Cox rushed for 193-yards, including a 14-yard touchdown, and threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Todd Swartz for the Patriots. He also had 13 tackles on defense. Brian Danner scored on a 39-yard run for the Patriots. Dan Speaks scored on a 72 run and Nate Speaks scored on a 95-yard kickoff return for the Panthers.
