District 3 Notes for York & Adams Counties – Week Nine

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division I action:

 

The Mustangs of South Western (3-6 overall, 3-3 YAIAA Division I) galloped over the Colonials of New Oxford (3-6 overall, 2-3 YAIAA Division I) 34-7.  You can certainly say that Smith had a lot to do with the outcome in this game.  Jessie Smith scored a touchdown on a 35-yard circus catch, Cody Smith scored two rushing touchdowns and Tim Smith had a nifty 8-yard run and some good defensive plays for the Mustangs.  Twins Adam and Alex Smith were stars for the Colonials.  Quarterback Alex passed for 72-yards and had a neat 10-yard run and running back Adam led the rushing attack with 48-yards and returned 3 kickoffs for 44-yards.  Aaron Repman led the Mustangs rushing attack with 91-yards, including a 17-yard touchdown, followed by Eric Updegrove with 55-yards, Cody Smith with 52, including touchdowns of 4 and 7-yards, and Robert Barnett with 33-yards.  J. C. Laughlin completed 4 of 8 passes for 89-yards, including the 35-yard touchdown to Jessie Smith and a 31-yard touchdown to Jeremy Renoll, for the Mustangs.  The Colonials were able to avoid the shutout with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Ross Hall to Richard Stover with 49 seconds left in the game.

 

The unbeaten Panthers of Central York (9-0 overall, 5-0 YAIAA Division I) defeated the Lions of Red Lion (4-5 overall, 3-2 YAIAA Division I) 31-21 to clinch the Division I championship.  Matt Nugent rushed for 139-yards, including a 15-yard touchdown, and caught 3 passes for 103-yards, including a 70-yard touchdown; Shane Gilbert rushed for 76-yards, including a 46-yard touchdown, and Derrick Bender rushed for 32-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown, for the Panthers.  Eric Schwartz completed 6 passes for 202-yards, including the touchdown to Nugent and a 67-yard touchdown to Anjelo Kellum, for the Panthers.  Matt Barshinger led the Lions rushing attack with 111-yards and Taylor Green completed 8 passes for 96-yards, including a 43-yard touchdown to Ed Kiser (who caught 5 passes for 65-yards) and a 1-yard touchdown to Andrew Downs.  Kiser returned a kickoff 88-yards for another Lions score.

 

Bearcats of William Penn (5-4 overall, 3-2 YAIAA Division I) defeated the Wildcats of Dallastown (1-8 overall, 1-4 YAIAA Division I) 35-14. Lamar Hughes rushed for 298-yards, including touchdowns of 71, 60 and 4-yards; Shavell Jones rushed for 52-yards, including a 40-yard touchdown; and Tisen Dicksen completed 6 passes for 102-yards, including a 24-yard touchdown to Brandon Wright, for the Bearcats.  Kyle O’Donnell led the Wildcats rushing attack with 105-yards, including touchdowns of 1 and 2-yards, and Zach Shue completed 4 passes for 76-yards.

 

The Warriors of Susquehannock (9-0 overall, 5-0 YAIAA Division II) downed the Rockets of Spring Grove (4-5 overall, 2-3 YAIAA Division I) 33-14 in independent action.  Chaz Powell rushed for 183-yards, including touchdowns of 61 and 7-yards; Cody Baker rushed for 66-yards, including a 44-yard touchdown; Joe Mummert rushed for 55-yards; Justin Markel rushed for 45-yards, including a 2-yard touchdown, and Caleb Walls kicked field goals of 25 and 23-yards for the Warriors.  Andy McCoy completed 6 passes for 113-yards, including 3 for 53-yards to Ian Childers, 2 for 23-yards to Markel and 1 for 37-yards to Powell, for the Warriors.  Powell and Travis Landis each intercepted a pass for the Warriors.  Erik Brough led the Rockets rushing attack with 86-yards and Matt Marshall rushed for 58-yards, including a 16-yard touchdown.  Marshall also completed 14 passes for 153-yards, including a 3-yard touchdown to Brough (who caught 3 passes for 41-yards).  Jayson Senft caught 6 passes for 64-yards and Justin Seibert caught 4 for43-yards.

 

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division II action:

 

The Trojans of York Suburban (8-1 overall, 5-1 YAIAA Division II) shut out the Golden Knights of Eastern York (0-9 overall, 0-5 YAIAA Division II) 44-0.  Dustin Gatewood rushed for 124-yards, including a 46-yard touchdown; Zach Reider rushed for 52-yards, including a 48-yard touchdown; Brandon Snyder rushed for 22-yards, including a 5-yard touchdown, and Marc Bower scored on a 1-yard run for the Trojans.  Joseph Merkle completed 4 passes for 96-yards, including a 65-yard touchdown to Derrick Bass; Marc Bower completed 4 passes for 52-yards, including a 5-yard touchdown to Matt Frey, and Zach Reider added a 30-yard field goal for the Trojans.  Dan Kraft led the Golden Knights meager rushing attack with 18-yards and Dan Kraft led the passing attack with 4 completions for 36-yards.  The Golden Knights netted 3-yards rushing and 55-yards passing for the game.

 

The Bulldogs of West York (4-5 overall, 3-2 YAIAA Division II) edged the Irish of York Catholic (0-9 overall, 0-5 YAIAA Division II) 29-23.  No other information was available.

 

The Eagles of Dover (3-6 overall, 3-2 YAIAA Division II) defeated the Rams of Kennard-Dale (4-5 overall, 2-3 YAIAA Division II) 22-7.  Brandon Beck rushed for 106-yards, including a 50-yard touchdown; Mike Stough rushed for 61-yards, including a 4-yard touchdown, and Colt Zarilla completed 8 passes for 106-yards, including a 49-yard touchdown to Ben Delp (who caught 2 passes for 65-yards) on a flea flicker that left all of the Rams flat footed, for the Eagles.  Craig Colvin rushed for 124-yards, including a 90-yard touchdown, and Justin Boland completed 8 passes for 46-yards, including 4 for 21-yards to Colvin, for the Rams.

 

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division III action:

 

The Thunderbolts of Littlestown (8-1 overall, 5-0 YAIAA Division III) shut out the Squires of Delone Catholic (5-4 overall, 4-4 YAIAA Division III) 13-0.  Nate Rolon led all rushers with 45-yards, including a 3-yard touchdown, for the Thunderbolts.  Nate Murren returned an interception 21-yards for the other Thunderbolts score and Zach Beaver completed 5 passes for 77-yards.  Joe Sorice led the Squires rushing attack with 39-yards, followed by Joe Stieber with 26-yards.  The Squires turned the ball over 6 times and were held to 68-yards rushing and 20-yards passing for the game as the Thunderbolts defense stymied their every effort.

 

The Nighthawks of Hanover (4-5 overall, 3-2 YAIAA Division III) defeated the Knights of Fairfield (2-8 overall, 0-5 YAIAA Division III) 47-20.  Chris Tarbart rushed for 107-yards, including touchdowns of 2, 1 and 71-yards, and returned a kickoff 82-yards for another touchdown; Matt Trish rushed for 104-yards; James Leedy rushed for 59-yards, including a 53-yard touchdown; Bryant Descheemaeker rushed for 10-yards, including a 3-yard touchdown, and Nic Shirey (who also completed 4 passes for 79-yards) scored on a 5-yard run for the Nighthawks.  Robby Potts led the Knights rushing attack with 23-yards, including a 6-yard touchdown, and completed 8 passes for 181-yards, including an 8-yard touchdown to Shane Gibbon, and Ryan Grove threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Dan Goetz.  Goetz caught 2 passes for 67-yards, Corey Staples caught 2 for 51-yards, and Descheemaeker caught 2 for 39-yards.

 

The Canners of Biglerville (3-6 overall, 2-3 YAIAA Division III) defeated the Spartans of York County Tech (2-7 overall, 0-5 YAIAA Division III) 35-9.  Ashton Taughinbaugh rushed for 192-yards, Zach Ditmar rushed for 66-yards, including a 10-yard touchdown, and quarterback Ryan Wagaman rushed for 68-yards, including touchdowns of 12 and 3-yards, for the Canners.  Wagaman also completed 4 passes for 63-yards, including touchdowns of 11-yards to Spencer Showers and 35-yards to Zach Liebrum.  Kevin Stump led the Spartans rushing attack with 23-yards, followed by Marc Bowers with 19, Justin Brown with 18 and Bruce Kessler with 10.  Stump completed 10 passes for 140-yards, including an 80-yard touchdown to Ryan Scott.  The Spartans were awarded a safety when Wagaman was called for intentional grounding in the end zone.

 

The Eagles of Cocalico (7-2 overall, 5-1 Lancaster-Lebanon Section 2) edged the Eagles of Bermudian Springs (6-3 overall, 4-1 YAIAA Division III) 27-24 in overtime, in independent action.  Kyle Payne rushed for 139-yards, including a 32-yard touchdown in regulation time and a 3-yard game winning touchdown in overtime; Devin Orme rushed for 90-yards, including a 32-yard touchdown, and Aaron Pannebecker rushed for 22-yards, including a 3-yard touchdown, for Cocalico.  Ryan Spahr rushed for 95-yards, including touchdowns of 3, 6 and 7-yards, and Davey Zaminski completed 13 passes for 192-yards, including 4 for 95-yards to Jeff Frantz, 3 for 47-yards to Kohl Curran, 3 for 24-yards to Tyler Smith and 3 for 26-yards to Spahr, for Bermudian Springs.  You might say the Eagles soared in this one.

 

Adams or York County Mid-Penn action:

 

The Warriors of Gettysburg (8-1 overall, 4-1 Mid-Penn Keystone Division) defeated the Blue Raiders of Middletown (2-7 overall, 1-4 Mid-Penn Keystone Division) 35-8.  Curtis Corbin rushed for 56-yards, including a 10-yard touchdown; Cody Trail scored on a 1-yard run; and D. J. Stahl scored on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Evan Lewis for the Warriors.  The rest of the game was the Lewis – Barnes show.  Lewis completed 12 passes for 247-yards and 3 touchdowns.  His favorite target, the star receiver Terrill Barnes, caught 8 passes for 188-yards, including touchdowns of 15 and 31-yards, for the Warriors.  Barnes has caught 48 passes for 1,052-yards and 13 touchdowns for the season.  Dan Shaffer led the Blue Raiders rushing attack with 66-yards, including a 19-yard touchdown, and Bennett added 50-yards passing and Koncar chipped in with 19-yards passing for the Blue Raiders.

 

The Polar Bears of Northern York (7-2 overall, 5-0 Mid-Penn Colonial) romped over the Bulldogs of Big Spring (0-9 overall, 0-5 Mid-Penn Colonial) 61-7 to clinch the Division championship.  Mike Romagnoli rushed for 90-yards, including a 7-yard touchdown’ Eddie Stephenson rushed for 26-yards, including a 16-yard touchdown; Jimmy Miller rushed for 24-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown, and Dane Eichelberger rushed for 6-yards, including a 3-yard touchdown for the Polar Bears.  Colby Betz completed all 7 of his passes for 155-yards, including a 21-yard touchdown to Steve Morret, a 48-yard touchdown to Chad Halterman (who caught 4 passes for 96-yards) and a 33-yard touchdown to Corey Betz for the Polar Bears.  Gerald Anderson returned an interception 28-yards for a touchdown and Josh Kefauver returned an interception 24-yards for a touchdown for the Polar Bears.  Wyatt Heberlig rushed for 36-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown, for the Bulldogs, who were held to 62-yards rushing and 13-yards passing for the game.

 

The Little Lions of State College (6-3 overall, 4-3 Mid-Penn Commonwealth) defeated the Patriots of Red Land (2-7 overall, 1-5 Mid-Penn Commonwealth) 49-14.  Justin Masorti scored on a 4-yard run, Ben Ganter scored on a 3-yard run, Pierre LeClair scored on a 3-yard run, and Brandon Morgan scored on a 2-yard run for the Little Lions.  Nate Stupar scored on a 44-yard interception return, Andrew Kerr scored on a 44-yard pass from Ganter and Matt Kenney scored on a 4-yard pass from Ganter for the Little Lions.  Brian Danner, with 40-yards (including an 8-yard touchdown), Luke Cox, with 36-yards, Matt Cox, with 30-yards, and Kyle Otstot, with 19-yards, led the Patriots rushing attack.  Mike Detemple completed 5 passes for 97-yards, including a 50-yard touchdown to Adam Love, and Otstot completed 2 passes for 15-yards for the Patriots.
