District 3 Notes for York & Adams Counties – Week Eight

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division I action:

 

The Mustangs of South Western (2-6 overall, 2-3 YAIAA Division I) galloped over the Rockets of Spring Grove (4-4 overall, 2-3 YAIAA Division I) 16-0. Robert Barnett led the rushing attack with 14 carries for 70-yards, followed by Aaron Repman with 11 for 44, Cody Smith with 5 for 33, Tim Smith with 4 for 19, Eric Updegrove with 4 for 18, Laughlin with 2 for 18, and Jason Gigous with 3 for 16-yards.  Tim Smith scored on a 12-yard jaunt and Cody Smith scored on a 15-yard burst up the middle for the Mustangs, who also registered a safety when a horde of Mustangs sacked Matt Marshall in the end zone.  J. C. Laughlin completed one pass, for 20-yards, to Drew Snyder.  The swarming Mustangs defense, led by Jeremy Renoll with 10 tackles and 3 sacks, and Dustin Shaw with 6 tackles and 3 sacks and featuring interceptions by Jesse Smith, Tim Smith and Eric Updegrove and a fumble recovery by Robert Barnett, held the Rockets to a net minus 9-yards rushing.  Matt Marshall did complete 10 passes for 132-yards, including 4 for 96-yards to Justin Seibert, 2 for 18-yards to Jayson Senft, 2 for 11-yards to Erik Brough, 1 for 6-yards to Mike Langer and 1 for 1-yard to Matt Duncan for the Rockets.  Erik Brough recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass for the Rockets.

 

The unbeaten Panthers of Central York (8-0 overall, 4-0 YAIAA Division I) rallied to a 28-25 victory over the Bearcats of William Penn (4-4 overall, 2-2 YAIAA Division I) in a thriller.  Matt Nugent rushed for 111-yards, including a 4-yard touchdown, Eric Schwartz rushed for a net of 68-yards, including a 77-yard touchdown run, and passed for 85-yards, including a 7-yard touchdown to Troy Blankenstein for the game winning score, and Derrick Bender scored on a 1-yard run for the Panthers.  Lamar Hughes led the Bearcats rushing attack with 106-yards, including touchdowns of 3 and 44-yards, Shavell Jones rushed for 98-yards, including a 56-yard touchdown, and Tisen Dickson passed for 170-yards, including an 80-yard touchdown to Byron Keys (who caught 2 passes for 102-yards).  John Pickerill’s interception of a Dickson bomb at the 1-yard line ended a Bearcats comeback threat near the end of the hard fought game.

 

The Lions of Red Lion (4-4 overall, 3-1 YAIAA Division I) outlasted the Colonials of New Oxford (3-5 overall, 1-3 YAIAA Division I) 28-25 in a thriller that saw the Lions come back with 2 touchdowns in the final 37 seconds of the game to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.  Matt Barshinger led the Lions rushing attack with 88-yards and Tyler Green added 20 more, including a 1-yard touchdown.  Green also completed 14 passes for 225-yards, including touchdowns of 26 and 3-yards to Andrew Downs and 72-yards to Ed Kiser.  The second touchdown pass to Downs and the one to Kiser came with 36.8 seconds and 10.6 seconds left in the game respectively.  Joe Doyle scored on a 30-yard run and Kiser picked off the final pass by the Colonials for the Lions.  The Smith twins, Adam and Alex, were the stars for the Colonials.  Alex, the quarterback, rushed for 180-yards, including touchdowns of 22 and 16-yards, and completed 3 passes for 26-yards.  Adam, the running back, rushed for 98-yards and took a handoff and completed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Zach Keffer.  Jordan Frey returned a fumble recovery 57-yards for a Colonials score

 

The Wildcats of Dallastown (1-7 overall, 1-3 YAIAA Division I) fell to the Mountaineers of Ephrata (2-7 overall, 1-5 Lancaster-Lebanon League III) 27-7 in independent action.  Blake Crowther led the Mountaineers with 129-yards rushing, including a 70-yard touchdown, and Ryan Crowther scored on a 3-yard run.  Blake Crowther also completed 4 passes for 94-yards, including touchdowns of 47 and 30-yards to Kyle Sensenig.  Kyle O’Donnell led the Wildcats rushing attack with 114-yards, including a 2-yard touchdown for their only score.  Zach Shue completed 9 passes for 94-yards, 6 of which went to Matt Miller for 70-yards, for the Wildcats.

 

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division II action:

 

The Warriors of Susquehannock (8-0 overall, 5-0 YAIAA Division II) bested the Trojans of York Suburban (7-1 overall, 4-1 YAIAA Division II) 6-3 in overtime.  The slugfest in the mud saw the regulation time end with no score.  Chaz Powell led the Warriors rushing attack with 36-yards, followed by Justin Markel with 34.  Powell scored the game-winning touchdown on an 8-yard run.  Andy McCoy passed for 45-yards for the Warriors.  Brandon Snyder rushed for 37-yards and Dustin Gatewood for 24 (until leaving the game with an injury in the second quarter) for the Trojans.  Marc Bower passed for 45-yards and Zach Reider kicked a 20-yard field goal in overtime for the Trojans.

 

The Rams of Kennard-Dale (4-4 overall, 2-2 YAIAA Division II) defeated the Irish of York Catholic (0-8 overall, 0-4 YAIAA Division II) 48-14.  Doug McClean, filling in admirably for injured star running back Brandon Marousek, led all runners with 108-yards, including touchdowns of 54 and 33-yards, for the Rams.  Justin Boland passed for 129-yards, including a 47-yard touchdown to Craig Colvin (who caught 4 passes for 104-yards and rushed 5 times for 92-yards), for the Rams.  Mike Green scored on runs of 1 and 7-yards and Colvin scored on a 31-yard run.  Donald Wilson, with 33-yards, and Christopher Reagan, with 21-yards, led the Irish rushing attack.  Scott Lehmann completed 16 passes for 153-yards, including a 12-yard touchdown to Sean Johnston, and scored on a 1-yard run for the Irish.  Johnston caught 6 passes for 71-yards, Andrew Bernhard caught 5 for 39-yards, Seth Flake caught 3 for 14-yards and Christopher Gurreri caught 2 for 29-yards for the Irish.

 

The Bulldogs of West York (3-5 overall, 2-2 YAIAA Division II) ran over the Golden Knights of Eastern York (0-8 overall, 0-4 YAIAA Division II) 48-12.  Dakota Kessler led the Bulldogs rushing attack with 89-yards, including touchdowns of 15 and 7-yards, and he returned a kickoff 76-yards for another score.  P. J. Hinds rushed for 86, yards, including a 69-yard touchdown, Ed Wintermyers rushed for 62-yards and Dan Haverslock added another 62-yards for the Bulldogs.  Rob Estep passed for 109-yards, including a 16-yard touchdown to Josh Koht (who also returned an interception 50-yards for a touchdown) and scored on a 27-yard run for the Bulldogs.  Steve Shaw led the Golden Knights rushing attack with 15-yards and Eric Livelsberger passed for 38-yards, including a 20-yard touchdown to Chad Richardson (who also returned a kickoff 93-yards for a score for the Golden Knights).  Mike Kraft had 34-yards passing for the Golden Knights. 

 

The Eagles of Dover (2-6 overall, 2-2 YAIAA Division II) were shut out by the Muhls of Muhlenberg (8-0 overall, 3-0 Berks Inter-County 1) 41-0 in independent action.  Jantzen Linn led the Muhls rushing attack with 82-yards, including touchdowns of 11 and 5-yards, followed by Brett Czamecki with 44-yards, including touchdowns of 3 and 7-yards.  Nicholas Heck threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Cardinal and Jordan Kipp passed for 90-yards, including a 7-yard touchdown to Vaughn Carraway, for the Muhls.  Mike Stough rushed for 88-yards, followed by Brandon Beck with 37-yards, and Colt Zarilla passed for 23-yards for the Eagles, who were held to 97-yards total offense for the game.

 

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division III action:

 

The Thunderbolts of Littlestown (7-1 overall, 4-0 YAIAA Division III) defeated the Knights of Fairfield (2-7 overall, 0-4 YAIAA Division III) 56-20.  Brian Zelanko rushed for 101-yards, including a 67-yard touchdown; Nate Rolon rushed for 74-yards, including a 56-yard touchdown; Zach Beaver rushed for 67-yards, including a 56-yard touchdown, Evan Arndt rushed for 20-yards, including a 2-yard touchdown; Beaver passed for 27-yards, including a 7-yard touchdown to Cory Hegarty; Corey Beaver scored on a 1-yard run, and Charlie Hunt kicked a 22-yard field goal for the Thunderbolts.  Kameron Armacost returned an interception 12-yards and Adam DeGroft returned one for 68-yards for touchdowns for the Thunderbolts.  The Knights were held to 10-yards rushing for the game but Robby Potts completed 13 passes for 201-yards, including touchdowns of 19-yards to R. C. Carr (who caught 2 passes for 29-yards) and 38-yards to Dan Goetz (who caught 3 passes for 74-yards). 

 

The Eagles of Bermudian Springs (6-2 overall, 4-1 YAIAA Division III) edged the Squires of Delone Catholic (5-3 overall, 4-1 YAIAA Division III) 20-19 in a thriller that saw the winning touchdown scored with 63 seconds left in the game and then Cody Wagner intercepted a Squires pass to thwart a comeback attempt.  Ryan Spahr led the Eagles with 57-yards rushing (and he caught 5 passes for 49-yards), followed by Tyler Smith with 44-yards rushing.  But Davey Zaminski completed 16 passes for 240-yards, including touchdowns of 14-yards to Clint Kramer (who caught 5 passes for 65-yards) and 51 and 32-yards to Kohl Curran (who caught 3 passes for 99-yards) to account for all of the touchdowns for the Eagles.  Joe Sorice led the Squires with 96-yards rushing, including a 17-yard touchdown, and caught a pass for 22-yards, and Nathan Bennett scored on a 2-yard run.  Seth Grim completed 6 passes for 83-yards, including an 8-yard touchdown pass to Bennett, for the Squires other score.  Tyler Hagaman led the Squires receivers with 3 receptions for 50-yards.

 

The Nighthawks of Hanover (3-5 overall, 2-2 YAIAA Division III) shut out the Canners of Biglerville (2-6 overall, 1-3 YAIAA Division III) 27-0.  Chris Tarbart led the Nighthawks rushing attack with 119-yards, including touchdown runs of 3 and 5-yards.  Matt Trish rushed for 33-yards, caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Nic Shirey (who completed 5 passes for 62-yards) and returned the second half kickoff 81-yards for a touchdown for the Nighthawks.  The Canners had minus 30-yards rushing for the game.  Ryan Wagaman completed 2 passes for 14-yards and Kyle Whitmoyer completed 4 for 68-yards for the Canners, giving them a net offense of 52-yards for the game.  Craig Tipton caught 3 of those passes for 62-yards.

 

The Spartans of York County Tech (2-6 overall, 0-4 YAIAA Division III) were shut out by the Bulldogs of Tri-Valley (4-4 overall, 2-4 Twin Valley Conference) 47-0.  Andrew Oxenrider led the Bulldogs rushing attack with 163-yards, including touchdowns of 2 and 60-yards, and sharing the quarterback position with Dylan Schreffler, passed for 31-yards, including a 21-yard touchdown to Cameron Dudeck.  Schreffler passed for 152-yards, including a 5-yard touchdown to Dudeck and a 53-yard touchdown to Dylan Wilson.  Dudeck caught 6 passes for 75-yards and Wilson caught 2 for 93-yards.  Tyler Sweinhart scored on a 21-yard run and Joshua Pasatucka scored on a 1-yard run.  The Spartans were held to 22-yards rushing and 25-yards passing for the game.  Justin Brown led the rushing attack with 11-yards, Lance Sease passed for 18-yards and Kevin Stump passed for 7-yards.

 

Adams or York County Mid-Penn action:

 

The Warriors of Gettysburg (7-1 overall, 3-1 Mid-Penn Keystone Division) defeated the Panthers of East Pennsboro (2-6 overall, 1-3 Mid-Penn Colonial) 21-8 in independent action.  Jason Vivaldi led the rushing attack with 61-yards, including a 15-yard touchdown, and Evan Lewis passed for 61-yards for the Warriors.  Terrill Barnes scored on a 4-yard run and returned an interception 27-yards for another score for the Warriors.  Danny Etter led the Panthers with 37-yards rushing and Nick Pisani completed 11 passes for 157-yards (5 of which went to Kory Ness for 85-yards and 2 went to Kenji Holloway for 44-yards).

 

The Polar Bears of Northern York (6-2 overall, 4-0 Mid-Penn Colonial) defeated the Blackhawks of Susquenita (3-5 overall, 3-2 Mid-Penn Colonial) 59-22.  Mike Romagnoli rushed for 80-yards, including a 3-yard touchdown; Chad Halterman rushed for 38-yards, including a 32-yard touchdown (He also caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Colby Betz for a touchdown and returned a kickoff 82-yards for another score); Dane Eichelberger rushed for 30-yards, including touchdowns of 6 and 11-yards; Michael Davies rushed for 30-yards, including a 11-yard touchdown; Brent Brockman kicked a 26-yard field goal, and Betz completed 12-passes for 148-yards for the Polar Bears.  The Blackhawks were held to 57-yards rushing and 142-yards passing as Tim Wagner complete 5 passes for 99-yards and Chris Reeder completed 3 for 43-yards.  Colin Leonard led the Blackhawks receivers with 4 receptions for 94-yards.

 

The Eagles of Cumberland Valley (7-1 overall, 6-1 Mid-Penn Commonwealth) shut out the Patriots of Red Land (2-6 overall, 1-4 Mid-Penn Commonwealth) 42-0.  Quarterback Jordan Abner completed 11 passes for 141-yards, including a 16-yard touchdown to Greg Herrold (who caught 7 passes for 98-yards).  Mitch Kislan rushed for 47-yards, including touchdowns of 16, 3 and 3-yards, Mitch Michaud scored on a 7-yard run and Josh Shumberger scored on an 85-yard jaunt for the Eagles (he led the Eagles rushing attack with 102-yards).  Adam Thieleman and Patrick Casper had interceptions and Mitch Durnin recovered a fumble for the Eagles.  Luke Cox led the Patriots rushing attack with 87-yards on 15 carries, followed by Brian Danner with 72-yards on 11 carries.  Cox also led the defense with 9 tackles.  The Patriots had 162-yards rushing and minus 3-yards passing for the game.
