District 3 Notes for York & Adams Counties – Week Seven

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division I action:

 

The Mustangs of South Western (1-6 overall, 1-3 YAIAA Division I) lost to the Lions of Red Lion (3-4 overall, 2-1 YAIAA Division I) 33-24 in a thriller that saw seven touchdowns of more than 40-yards, and four of them went for over 70-yards.  Matt Barshinger rushed for 232-yards including touchdowns of 77, 77 and 52-yards, and he had 8 tackles and an interception on defense; and Tyler Green completed 5 passes for 177-yards, including 2 for 145-yards to Ed Kiser, which went for touchdowns of 65 and 80-yards, for the Lions.  Andrew Downs recovered a fumble and Ryan Sisson blocked a Mustangs field goal attempt for the Lions.  Joe Ault led the Mustangs rushing attack with 78-yards and a 2-point conversion run; J. C. Laughlin completed 8 passes for 241-yards, including touchdowns of 44 and 18-yards to Drew Snyder (who caught 5 passes for 226-yards, with the longest going for 66-yards).  Aaron Repman returned a kickoff 85-yards for a touchdown and Snyder kicked a 29-yard field goal (which set a new school record of 11 field goals in a career) for the Mustangs.  Eric Updegrove recovered a fumble, Jeremy Renoll had an interception and Dustin Shaw blocked an extra point attempt for the Mustangs.

 

The Colonials of New Oxford (3-4 overall, 1-2 YAIAA Division I) upset the Bearcats of William Penn (4-3 overall, 2-1 YAIAA Division I) 28-14.  The Smith twins accounted for 99-yards rushing; 50-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown, for Alex, and 49-yards, including a 2-yard touchdown, for Adam, for the Colonials.  Quarterback Alex Smith also passed for 61-yards, including a 19-yard touchdown to Kody Kibler (who caught 4 passes for 36-yards and rushed for 40 more).  Erik Harris added another Colonials touchdown on a 55-yard interception return.  Shavell Jones rushed for 116-yards, including a 77-yard touchdown, the other speedster, Lamar Hughes added 33 more yards, and Jordan Davis scored on a 1-yard run for the Bearcats. 

 

The Rockets of Spring Grove (4-3 overall, 2-2 YAIAA Division I) defeated the Wildcats of Dallastown (1-6 overall, 1-3 YAIAA Division I) 55-22.  Erik Brough rushed for 148-yards, including touchdowns of 14 and 8-yards and Matt Duncan rushed for 26-yards, including touchdowns of 3 and 25-yards, for the Rockets.  Matt Marshall completed 13 passes for 222-yards, including 4 touchdowns, 44 and 21-yards to Matt Langer, 23-yards to Justin Seibert and 15-yards to Jason Senft, for the Rockets.  Kyle O’Donnell rushed for 79-yards, including touchdowns of 1 and 2-yards, and Zach Shue completed 9 passes for 139-yards, including a 44-yard touchdown to Robert Donatelli (who caught 3 passes for 81-yards) for the Wildcats.  Matt Miller caught 4 passes for 41-yards and O’Donnell caught 2 for 17-yards.

 

The Panthers of Central York (7-0 overall, 3-0 YAIAA Division I) shut out the Irish of York Catholic (0-7 overall, 0-3 YAIAA Division II) 48-0 in independent action.  Shane Gilbert rushed for 102-yards, including touchdowns of 73 and 12-yards; Matt Nugent rushed for 35-yards, including touchdowns of 4 and 15-yards, and caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Nate Petry; Mike Wise rushed for 59-yards, including a 3-yard touchdown, and Quarterback Eric Schwartz scored on a 36-yard run for the Panthers.  Nic Falci led the Irish rushing attack with 22-yards and they were held to 21-net rushing yards and 3-yards passing for the game.

 

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division II action:

 

The Warriors of Susquehannock (7-0 overall, 4-0 YAIAA Division II) topped the Eagles of Dover (2-5 overall, 2-2 YAIAA Division II) 42-18.  Chaz Powell rushed for 149-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown; Joe Mummert rushed for 82-yards and Justin Markel rushed for 37 yards, including touchdowns of 1 and 2-yards, for the Warriors.  Quarterback Andy McCoy scored a touchdown on a 1-yard run and completed 9 passes for 140-yards, including touchdowns of a 15-yards to Mike Potteiger (who caught 3 passes for 50-yards) and 24-yards to Josh Winemiller (who caught 3 passes for 39-yards) for the Warriors.  Mike Stough rushed for 35-yards, including two 1-yard touchdowns, and Colt Zarilla passed for 43-yards, including a 34-yard touchdown to Stough, and made to interceptions on defense for the Eagles.

 

The Trojans of York Suburban (7-0 overall, 4-0 YAIAA Division II) defeated the Bulldogs of West York (2-5 overall, 1-2 YAIAA Division II) 20-10.  Dustin Gatewood rushed for 193-yards, including touchdowns of 2 and 29-yards, and Marc Bower passed for 40-yards, including a 27-yard touchdown to Matt Frey, for the Trojans.  Dakota Kessler, with 17-yards, Rob Estep with 16-yards, Tyler Reel, with 13-yards, and Ed Wintermyers, with 12-yards, accounted for the Bulldogs rushing attack.  Rob Estep passed for 134-yards, including a 13-yard touchdown to Keith Miller, and Nate Harmer kicked a 27-yard field goal for the Bulldogs.

 

The Rams of Kennard-Dale (3-4 overall, 1-2 YAIAA Division II) defeated the Golden Knights of Eastern York (0-7 overall, 0-3 YAIAA Division II) 35-14.  Brandon Marousek racked up 97-yards rushing, including touchdowns of 6 and 55-yards, and 122-yards receiving, including a 50-yard touchdown reception from Justin Boland (who passed for 149-yards), for the Rams.  Craig Colvin returned a fumble recovery 55-yards for a Rams touchdown and Doug McClean scored another on a 55-yard run.  Quarterback Mike Kraft led the Golden Knights rushing attack with 25-yards and passed for 209-yards, including a 23-yard touchdown to Zac Seitz (who caught 5 passes for 68-yards), and Evan Brenneman returned a kickoff 82-yards for a touchdown.

 

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division III action:

 

The Thunderbolts of Littlestown (6-1 overall, 3-0 YAIAA Division III) romped over the Canners of Biglerville (2-5 overall, 1-2 YAIAA Division III) 35-3.  Nate Rolon rushed for 139-yards, including a 3-yard touchdown, and returned an interception 57-yards for a touchdown for the Thunderbolts.  Brian Zelanko rushed for 29-yards and returned an interception 92-yards for another Thunderbolts touchdown.  Zach Beaver passed for 52-yards, including a 36-yard touchdown to Evan Bair, for the Thunderbolts.  Ryan Wagaman passed for 115-yards, including 3 passes for 53-yards to Craig Tipton, for the Canners, who were held to 22-yards rushing for the game.  Dan Campo’s 25-yard field goal accounted for the Canners score.

 

The Squires of Delone Catholic (5-2 overall, 4-0 YAIAA Division III) shut out the Knights of Fairfield (2-5 overall, 0-3 YAIAA Division III) 62-0.  Joe Sorice rushed 5 times for 59-yards, including touchdowns of 5 and 22-yards, caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Seth Grim, returned a fumble 16-yards for a fourth touchdown and had 3 interceptions on defense for the Squires.  Logan Kwedar rushed for 76-yards, including a 70-yard touchdown; John Steiber rushed for 63-yards, including touchdowns of 20 and 37-yards; Nate Bennett scored on a 7-yard run and kicked 7 extra points, and Grim passed for 79-yards, including the touchdown to Sorice.  Robby Potts completed 7 passes for 71-yards, including 5 passes for 50-yards to Corey Staples, for the Knights, but they were held to the 71-yards passing and minus 50-yards rushing for the game.  

 

The Eagles of Bermudian Springs (5-2 overall, 3-1 YAIAA Division III) shut out the Spartans of York County Tech (2-5 overall, 0-4 YAIAA Division III) 50-0.  Ryan Spahr rushed for 88-yards, including touchdowns of 1 and 7-yards; Tyler Smith rushed for 85-yards, including a 3-yard touchdown; Brian Ford rushed for 49-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown; Luke Mummert rushed for 40-yards, including a 6-yard touchdown; Andrew Maher rushed for 13-yards, including a 3-yard touchdown, and Davey Zaminski passed for 79-yards, including a 19-yard touchdown to Jacob Hinkle, for the Eagles.  Marc Bonner rushed for 12-yards and caught 2 passes for 13-yards to lead the Spartans.  Lance Sease, Jr. completed 6 passes for 26-yards but overall the Spartans were held to one first down and 44-yards of offense.

 

The Buffaloes of Newport (7-1 overall, 5-1 Twin Valley League) defeated the Nighthawks of Hanover (2-5 overall, 1-2 YAIAA Division III) 21-7 and in independent action.  Quarterback Stew Kirk rushed for 146-yards, including touchdowns of 30 and 7-yards, and Michael Talton rushed for 37-yards, including a 6-yard touchdown, for the Buffaloes.  Kirk also completed 5 passes for 47-yards.  Chris Tarbart rushed for 92-yards and Matt Trish rushed for 74-yards for the Nighthawks.  Nic Shirey completed 9 passes for 138-yards, including a 9-yard touchdown to Tarbart, for the Nighthawks.  Bryant Descheemaeker caught 4 of those passes for 39-yards.

 

Adams or York County Mid-Penn action:

 

The Warriors of Gettysburg (6-1 overall, 3-1 Mid-Penn Keystone Division) shut out the Wildcats of Mechanicsburg (2-5 overall, 0-3 Mid-Penn Keystone Division) 35-0.  Jason Vivaldi Led the Warriors rushing attack with 95-yards; Curtis Corbin rushed for 32-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown, and Terrill Barnes scored on runs of 1 and 2-yards and completed a 21-yard pass to Brad Thompson on a fake punt.  Evan Lewis completed 12 of 13 passes for 174-yards, including an 8-yard touchdown toss to the sensational Barnes (who caught 7 passes for 115-yards). Reserve quarterback Storm Woerner threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Sean Manahan for the final score.  Zach Michael intercepted Matt Chiampi’s pass in the end zone to preserve the shutout.  Notre Dame bound Zach Frazer completed 16 passes for 174-yards and Chiampi completed 4 passes for 60-yards for the Wildcats, who were held to minus 2-yards rushing for the game.

 

The Polar Bears of Northern York (5-2 overall, 3-0 Mid-Penn Colonial) shut out the Panthers of East Pennsboro (2-5 overall, 1-3 Mid-Penn Colonial) 42-0.  Mike Romagnoli rushed for 193-yards, including a 14-yard touchdown (and had a 71-yard touchdown run erased by a penalty); Craig Moose scored on a 10-yard run, Mike Davies scored on a 5-yard run; Dane Eichelberger scored on a 1-yard run, and Chad Halterman scored on a 33-yard punt return for the Polar Bears.  Colby Betz passed for 49-yards, including a 32-yard touchdown to his brother Cory, for the Polar Bears.  Danny Etter led the Panthers rushing attack with 37-yards and Nicholas Pisanti passed for 167-yards, including 6 passes for 152-yards to Kory Ness.

 

The Rams of Central Dauphin (5-2 overall, 3-2 Mid-Penn Commonwealth) edged the Patriots of Red Land (2-5 overall, 1-3 Mid-Penn Commonwealth) 27-24.  Derrick Day, substituting for the injured Glenn Nielsen, returned a kickoff 84-yards for the game-winning touchdown.  Ricki Brown stole the ball from Red Land’s Brian Danner and returned the fumble 55-yards for another Rams score.  Quarterback Mike Dietz scored a touchdown on a 22-yard draw play and Alan Wynner scored another on a 6-yard run for the Rams.  The Patriots Luke Cox rushed for 137-yards, including touchdowns of 3, 3 and 1-yards, threw a 41-yard halfback pass to Todd Swartz, and had 13 tackles on defense as he spent much of the night in the Rams backfield.  Cameron Johnson kicked a 45-yard field goal as time ran out in the first half and Mike Detemple completed 9 passes for 82-yards for the Patriots.
