District 3 Notes for York & Adams Counties – Week Six

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division I action:

 

The Bearcats of William Penn (4-2 overall, 2-0 YAIAA Division I) shut out the Mustangs of South Western (1-5 overall, 1-2 YAIAA Division I) 14-0 in a weird game that saw the Mustangs run off 71 plays to only 37 for the Bearcats.  A 97-yard touchdown run by Shavell Jones on a burst up the middle and an 80-yard-jaunt around the end by Lamar Hughes sealed the deal for the Bearcats.  Jones rushed for 170-yards and Hughes for 128-yards.  Joe Ault led the Mustangs with 100-yards rushing, followed by Robert Barnett with 38-yards.  J. C. Laughlin completed 8 passes for 110-yards, including 2 for 45-yards to Robert Barnett, 2 for 29-yards to Jeremy Renoll and 1 for 29-yards to Drew Snyder, for the Mustangs.

 

The Panthers of Central York (6-0 overall, 3-0 YAIAA Division I) shut out the Wildcats of Dallastown (1-5 overall, 1-2 YAIAA Division I) 49-0.  Shane Gilbert rushed for 68-yards and Tyler Gray and Tyl Schildt each rushed once, for 60 and 39-yard touchdowns respectively, for the Panthers.  Eric Schwartz completed 12 passes for 128-yards, including touchdowns of 11, 21 and 13-yards to Anjelo Kellum; J. J. Gonzales recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown and Matt Nugent scored on a 2-yard run for the Panthers.  Zach Shue led the Wildcats with 12-yards rushing and 5 pass completions for 57-yards, including 2 for 22-yards to Andrew Le, 1 for 25-yards to Matt Miller and 1 for 10-yards to Robert Donatelli.  Kevin Frisby also completed an 8-yard pass to Jason Huska for the Wildcats.

 

The Rockets of Spring Grove (3-3 overall, 1-2 YAIAA Division I) bested the Colonials of New Oxford (2-4 overall, 0-2 YAIAA Division I) 26-22.  Erik Brough rushed for 56-yards and caught 2 passes for 16-yards, including an 18-yard touchdown from Matt Marshall (who completed 16 passes for 191-yards) for the Rockets.  Marshall scored on a 1-yard run and also threw a 17-yard touchdown to T. J. McMaster, and Mike Langer scored on a 22-yard run for the Rockets.  Justin Seibert caught 6 passes for 95-yards for the Rockets.  Alex Smith rushed for 95-yards and passed for 108-yards, including an 18-yard touchdown to Richard Stover; his brother Adam Smith rushed for 97-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown, and Kody Kibler scored on a 6-yard run for the Colonials. 

 

The Lions of Red Lion (2-4 overall, 1-1 YAIAA Division I) shut out the Golden Mules of Solanco (0-6 overall, 0-3 Lancaster-Lebanon League Section II) 18-0 in independent action.  Matt Barshinger led the Lions rushing attack through the mud with 77-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown, and quarterback Taylor Green rushed for 73-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown, and passed for 42-yards, including a 28-yard touchdown to Andrew Downs, for the Lions.  Nic Lewis rushed for 51-yards for the Golden Mules, who were held to 80-yards rushing and 2-yards passing for the game.

 

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division II action:

 

The Warriors of Susquehannock (6-0 overall, 3-0 YAIAA Division II) slogged through the mud for a 34-14 win over the Golden Knights of Eastern York (0-6 overall, 0-2 YAIAA Division II).  Justin Markel rushed for 97 mud laden yards, including a 1-yard touchdown, and caught 2 passes for 26-yards, including an 8-yard touchdown pass from Andy McCoy, for the Warriors.  Chaz Powell took a handoff of the opening kickoff from Ian Childers and returned it 92-yards for a touchdown and Mike Potteiger returned an interception 25-yards for another Warriors score.  McCoy also scored on a 1-yard run.  Mike Kraft passed for 71-yards, including a 22-yard touchdown to Chad Richardson, and Dan Kraft, who led the Golden Knights with 16-yards rushing, scored on a 1-yard run for the Golden Knights.

 

The Trojans of York Suburban (6-0 overall, 3-0 YAIAA Division II) routed the Rams of Kennard-Dale (2-4 overall, 0-2 YAIAA Division II) 42-7.  Brandon Snyder rushed for 100-yards, including a 66-yard touchdown; Zach Reider rushed for 66-yards, including a 71-yard touchdown, and Dustin Gatewood rushed for 60-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown (before leaving the game with a shoulder injury) for the Trojans.  Marc Bower completed 8 passes for 158-yards, including touchdowns of 14 and 11-yards to Matt Frey and 39-yards to Sean Markel, and Joseph Merkle completed 2 passes for 25-yards for the Trojans.  Brandon Marousek rushed for 69-yards, followed by Chris Culp with 25, Craig Colvin with 22, Mike Green with 21 and Doug McClean with 13-yards, including a 4-yard touchdown, and Justin Boland completed 6 passes for 37-yards for the Rams.

 

The Eagles of Dover (2-4 overall, 2-1 YAIAA Division II) defeated the Irish of York Catholic (0-6 overall, 0-3 YAIAA Division II) 27-12.  Mike Stough rushed for 97-yards, including a 60-yard touchdown; Brandon Beck rushed for 70-yards, including touchdowns of 25 and 28-yards; Dan Fahringer rushed for 50-yards, including a 5-yard touchdown; and Scott Zarilla passed for 58-yards for the Eagles.  Chris Reagan rushed for 18-yards, including a 7-yard touchdown, and Scott Lehmann completed 14 passes for 289-yards, including a touchdown of 80-yards to Sean Johnston (who caught 5 passes for 200-yards) for the Irish.  Led by Brett Elicker, the Eagles sacked Lehmann 9 times to thwart many a drive.

 

The Spartans of Garden Spot (3-3 overall, 2-1 Lancaster-Lebanon League Section II) shut out the Bulldogs of West York (2-4 overall, 1-1 YAIAA Division II) 37-0 and in independent action in the mud.  It was a Crabb Fest all the way as Bruce Crabb carried 22 times for 290-yards, including touchdowns of 4, 41, 77 and 43-yards, for the Spartans.  Ross Shober rushed for 70-yards, including a 25-yard touchdown, and Matt Hess kicked a 29-yard field goal and 3 extra points for the Spartans.  Andrew Stoltzfus added the last extra point.  Dakota Kessler, with 28-yards, and Ed Wintermyers, with 25-yards, led the Bulldogs meager rushing attack.  The Bullldogs were only able to muster 67-yards of total offense on the night.

 

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division III action:

 

The Thunderbolts of Littlestown (5-1 overall, 2-0 YAIAA Division III) edged the Eagles of Bermudian Springs (4-2 overall, 2-1 YAIAA Division III) 9-7.  Charlie Hunt’s 29-yard field goal with 22 seconds left in the game was the game winner and overcame his missed extra point that had left the Thunderbolts trailing 7-6.  Nate Rolon rushed for 85-yards and Zach Beaver rushed for 43-yards, including a 5-yard touchdown, and passed for 56-yards for the Thunderbolts.  Ryan Spahr rushed for a game high 108-yards, Tyler Smith rushed for 38-yards, including a 13-yard touchdown, and Davey Zaminski passed for 109-yards, including 3 for 43-yards to Clint Kramer and 2 for 52-yards to Jeff Frantz, for the Eagles.

 

The Squires of Delone Catholic (4-2 overall, 3-0 YAIAA Division III) shut out the Canners of Biglerville (2-4 overall, 1-1 YAIAA Division III) 41-0 in the mud Friday night.  Nate Bennett rushed for 57-yards, including a 44-yard touchdown; John Steiber rushed for 51-yards, including touchdowns of 3 and 4-yards; Seth Grimm rushed for 27-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown; Mike Kale rushed for 8-yards, including a 2-yard touchdown, and Logan Kwedar returned a fumble 15-yards for a touchdown for the Squires.  Joe Sorice added 39-yards rushing and Jacob Rockensmith, with 10, Luke Smith with 2 and Daniel Beard with 2 finished out the ground attack and the Squires never passed in the game.  Ryan Wagamen did complete 5 passes for 29-yards for the Canners, who were held to a net offense of 2-yards for the game.

 

The Nighthawks of Hanover (2-4 overall, 1-2 YAIAA Division III) rolled over the Spartans of York County Tech (2-4 overall, 0-3 YAIAA Division III) 35-7.  Chris Tarbart rushed for 130-yards, including touchdowns of 1 and 3-yards; Nate Sentz rushed for 43-yards, and Bryant Descheemaeker scored on a 3-yard run for the Knighthawks.  Nic Shirey passed for 160-yards, including a 25-yard touchdown to Nate Sentz and a 52-yard touchdown to Devan Lawrence for the Nighthawks.  Marc Bonner led the Spartans with 49-yards rushing and Derick Ferree added 10-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown after the Knighthawks punter was tackled on the 1-yard line following a poor snap.

 

The Rockets of Rockwood Area (4-2) defeated the Knights of Fairfield (2-4 overall, 0-2 YAIAA Division III) 14-8 in independent action.  Tyler Baker with 61-yards, Matt Ohler with 55-yards, and Zach Sipe with 38-yards led the Rockets rushing attack.  Seth Foreman scored on a 37-yard pass from Eli Traup (he caught 5 passes for 78-yards), and Sipe scored on a 1-yard run for the Rockets.  Nate Maker blocked a punt out of the end zone for a safety and Robby Potts (who completed 5 passes for 108-yards) threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Grove for the Knights.  Corey Staples led the Knights with 51-yards rushing.

 

Adams or York County Mid-Penn action:

 

The Falcons of Lower Dauphin (6-0 overall, 3-0 Mid-Penn Keystone) edged The Warriors of Gettysburg (5-1 overall, 2-1 Mid-Penn Keystone Division) 35-29.  Tucker Berry rushed for 199-yards, including touchdowns of 6 and 2-yards, for the Falcons.  Zach Umberger passed for 148-yards, including a 12-yard touchdown to Jared Myers.  Terrill Barnes finished with 348 all-purpose yards, including eight catches for 215 yards and touchdowns of 98 and 6-yards and 30-yards and another touchdown rushing, for the Warriors.  Evan Lewis passed for 277-yards and kicked a 24-yard field goal for the Warriors.  Sacks by Kyle Seaman and Sean McCann ended the Warriors last drive after the Falcons finally went ahead for good when Umberger passed to Matt Coyne for 42-yards and James Weigle scored on an 11-yard run.

 

The Polar Bears of Northern York (4-2 overall, 2-0 Mid-Penn Colonial) defeated the Blue Raiders of Middletown (2-4 overall, 1-1 Mid-Penn Keystone) 49-21 in independent action.  Chad Halterman rushed for 60-yards, including a 59-yard touchdown; Mike Bavies rushed for 56-yards, including touchdowns of 9 and 6-yards; Mike Romagnoli rushed for 26-yards, including a 3-yard touchdown; Colby Betz scored on a 1-yard run and completed 9 passes for 164-yards, including touchdowns of 19 and 22-yards to brother Cory Betz (who caught 6 passes for 121-yards) for the Polar Bears.  Ryan Stephenson also caught 2 passes for 36-yards for the Polar Bears.  Chucky Moyer rushed for 49-yards, including touchdowns of 7 and 20-yards, and Kyle Bennett completed 2 passes for 86-yards, including a 79-yard touchdown to Moyer, for the Blue Raiders.

 

The Cougars of Harrisburg (5-1 overall, 5-1 Mid-Penn Commonwealth) romped over the Patriots of Red Land (2-4 overall, 1-2 Mid-Penn Commonwealth) 35-7.  No other information was available.
