York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division I action:
The Mustangs of South Western (1-4 overall, 1-1 YAIAA Division I) galloped to a 33-0 shut out of the Wildcats of Dallastown (1-4 overall, 1-1 YAIAA Division I) during Homecoming Night at the Mustang Corral. The Mustangs run defense was stellar as they held the Wildcats to 51-yards on 29 carries and star running back Kyle O’Donnell, who rang up 289-yards last week, was held to no gain on 14 carries. Joe Ault rushed for 102-yards, including touchdowns of 1 and 5-yards, Cody Smith rushed for 57-yards, including a 12-yard touchdown, Aaron Repman rushed for 49-yards, including a nifty 43-yard touchdown, and Jason Gigous rushed for 20-yards for the Mustangs. J. C. Laughlin completed 6 passes for 80-yards, including 3 for 39-yards to Robert Barnett and a 2-yard touchdown to Jason Gigous, for the Mustangs. Nick Bentz rushed for 24-yards and Zach Shue rushed for 18-yards for the Wildcats. Shue also completed 4 passes for 45 yards and Kevin Frisby completed 2 for 21-yards.
The Panthers of Central York (5-0 overall, 2-0 YAIAA Division I) defeated the Rockets of Spring Grove (2-3 overall, 0-2 YAIAA Division I) 39-18. Derrick Bender rushed for 138-yards, including touchdowns of 39 and 32-yards, Eric Schwartz passed for 197-yards, including touchdowns of 76 and 27-yards to Anjelo Kellum (who caught 5 passes for 127-yards), Pat Strine recovered a fumble and returned it 91-yards for a touchdown and Jonathan Gonzales recovered a fumble and returned it 18-yards for a touchdown for the Panthers. Quarterback Matt Marshall led the Rockets rushing attack with 23-yards and passed for an amazing 326-yards, including a 6-yard touchdown to Mike Langer (who also scored on a 1-yard plunge) and a 56-yard touchdown to Justin Seibert (who caught 8 passes for 152-yards.
The Bearcats of William Penn (3-2 overall, 1-0 YAIAA Division I) edged the Lions of Red Lion (1-4 overall, 1-1 YAIAA Division I) 28-21. Lamar Hughes rushed for 140-yards, including 57 and 27-yard touchdowns, Shavell Jones rushed for 53-yards, including a 12-yard touchdown, and Byron Keyes recovered a fumble and returned it 3-yards for the game winning touchdown for the Bearcats. Quarterback Taylor Green rushed for 117-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown, and passed for 79-yards, including a game opening 57-yard touchdown to Ed Kiser and a 3-yard touchdown to Joshua Schildt, for the Lions.
The Colonials of New Oxford (2-3 overall, 0-1 YAIAA Division I) shut out the Golden Knights of Eastern York (0-5 overall, 0-1 YAIAA Division II) 49-0 in independent action. The Smith twins, Adam and Alex, rang up 225-yards rushing. Adam garnered 146-yards, including touchdowns of 11, 28 and 62-yards, and quarterback Alex registered 89-yards. Alex also passed for 31-yards, including a one yard touchdown to Kody Kibler. Kibler also rushed twice for 46-yards, scoring touchdowns on runs of 7 and 39-yards, and Brian Lawrence closed out the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Mike Kraft rushed for 12-yards and passed for 72-yards, including 2 for 45-yards to Chad Richardson, for the Golden Knights.
York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division II action:
The Warriors of Susquehannock (5-0 overall, 2-0 YAIAA Division II) scalped the Irish of York Catholic (0-5 overall, 0-2 YAIAA Division II) 69-14. Ian Childers returned a kickoff 93-yards for a touchdown and a punt 75-yards for another Warriors touchdown. Chaz Powell rushed for 93-yards, including 17, 24 and 9-yard touchdowns; Joe Mummert rushed for 89-yards, including a 14-yard touchdown; Andy McCoy passed for 125-yards, including a 24-yard touchdown to Mike Potteiger; Justin Markel scored on a 2-yard run; Dustin Conner scored on a 2-yard run; and Tim Miller scored on a 4-yard run for the Warriors. Chris Reagan led the Irish rushing attack with 69-yards and Scott Lehmann passed for 103-yards, including a 13-yard touchdown to Sean Johnston and a 17-yard touchdown to Miguel Vasquez.
The Trojans of York Suburban (5-0 overall, 2-0 YAIAA Division II) bested the Eagles of Dover (1-4 overall, 1-1 YAIAA Division II) 27-14. Brandon Snyder rushed for 45-yards, including a 4-yard touchdown, Dustin Gatewood rushed for 28-yards, including touchdowns of 1 and 5-yards before leaving the game in the second quarter, and Sean Markel returned an interception 33-yards for a touchdown for he Trojans. Mike Stough rushed for 24-yards, including a 26-yard touchdown, and Colt Zarilla passed for 100-yards, including a 10-yard touchdown to Ben Delp, for the Eagles.
The Bulldogs of West York (2-3 overall, 1-1 YAIAA Division II) defeated the Rams of Kennard-Dale (2-3 overall, 0-1 YAIAA Division II) 48-21. Dakota Kessler rushed for 128-yards, including a 2-yard touchdown, Ed Wintermyers rushed for 110-yards, including a 13-yard touchdown, and Rob Estep rushed for 32-yards, including touchdowns of 5 and 2-yards, for the Bulldogs. Quarterback Estep also passed for 178-yards, including 4 touchdowns: 17-yards to Keith Miller, 12 and 12-yards to Josh Koht, and 52-yards to Wintermyers. Brandon Marousek led the Rams with 85-yards rushing, including a 5-yard touchdown, Mike Green rushed for 20-yards, including a 5-yard touchdown, and quarterback Justin Boland passed for 248-yards, including a 28-yard touchdown to Marousek.
York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division III action:
The Eagles of Bermudian Springs (4-1 overall, 2-0 YAIAA Division III) soared over the Nighthawks of Hanover (1-4 overall, 0-2 YAIAA Division III) 33-7. Ryan Spahr rushed for 223-yards, including 7 and 32-yard touchdowns, Tyler Smith added 114-yards rushing, including touchdowns of 4 and 2-yards, and quarterback David Zaminski passed for 56-yards and scored on a one yard run for the Eagles. The Eagles rang up 370-yards rushing. Chris Tarbart led the Nighthawks meager rushing attack with 25-yards and quarterback Nic Shirey passed for 105-yards, including a 3-yard touchdown to Tarbart.
The Squires of Delone Catholic (3-2 overall, 2-0 YAIAA Division III) romped over the Spartans of York County Tech (2-3 overall, 0-2 YAIAA Division III) 57-7. Joe Sorice led the Squires rushing attack with 51-yards, including a 22-yard touchdown; Nathan Bennett rushed for 37-yards, including touchdowns of 8, 26 and 10-yards; Michael Kale scored on a 7-yard run and John Steiber scored on a 1-yard run. Jacob Hockensmith returned a free kick 66-yards for a touchdown and Seth Grim passed for 70-yards, including a 10-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Hagarman, for the Squires. Marc Bonner returned a fumble 81-yards for a touchdown for the Spartans to avoid the shut out. The Spartans were held to minus 28-yards rushing and 46-yards passing for a net total offense of 18-yards by the dominating Squires defense.
The Canners of Biglerville (2-3 overall, 1-0 YAIAA Division III) shut down the Knights of Fairfield (2-3 overall, 0-2 YAIAA Division III) 27-2. Zach Dittmar rushed for 76-yards, including a 10-yard touchdown, and Ryan Wagaman added 65-yards rushing, including touchdowns of 1, 2 and 5-yards, for the Canners. Wagaman also took over at quarterback in the second quarter and passed for 65-yards. The Knights got on the scoreboard first in the second quarter by registering a sack in the end zone for a safety and led 2-0 at the half. Corey Staples led the Knights rushing attack with 61-yards and Robby Potts passed for 91-yards for, including 3 passes for 63-yards to Dan Goetz.
The Thunderbolts of Littlestown (4-1 overall, 1-0 YAIAA Division III) edged the Cedars of Lebanon (3-2 overall, 2-1 Lancaster-Lebanon League Section II) 14-7 in independent action. Nate Rolon rushed for a career record 200-yards, including an electrifying 64-yard game winning touchdown run, and caught 3 passes for 61-yards, for the Thunderbolts. Tim Lookingbill blocked a Cedars punt and Davis Strine recovered it in the end zone for the Thunderbolts other touchdown. Zach Beaver rushed for 38-yards and passed for 78-yards for the Thunderbolts. Sacks by Cory Beaver and Brian Zelanko also helped the Thunderbolts cause. The Cedars were held to minus rushing yardage for the game and quarterback James Capello scored on a one yard run and passed for 131-yards.
Adams or York County Mid-Penn action:
The Warriors of Gettysburg (5-0 overall, 2-0 Mid-Penn Keystone Division) defeated the Sabers of Susquehanna Township (3-2 overall, 1-1 Mid-Penn Keystone) 32-14. R. J. Van Brakle rushed for 138-yards, including touchdowns of 80 and 6-yards, and Terrill Barnes (double and triple teamed often) caught 4 passes for 63-yards, including a 34-yard touchdown pass from Evan Lewis (who completed 7 passes for 114-yards) for the Warriors. Lewis scored a touchdown on a one yard run and Tim Strausbaugh returned an interception 70-yards for another Warriors touchdown. Wagner rushed for 22-yards and threw 13 passes for 136-yards, including 2 for 56-yards to Lee and 5 for 53-yards to Peters, for the Sabers.
The Polar Bears of Northern York (3-2 overall, 2-0 Mid Penn Colonial) mauled the Greyhounds of Shippensburg (0-5, 0-1 Mid-Penn Colonial) 43-8. Chad Halterman returned 2 punts, each for 58-yards, for touchdowns; Mike Romagnoli rushed for 133-yards, including a 52-yard touchdown; Colby Betz passed for 82-yards, including a 27-yard touchdown to Corey Betz; Dave Eichelberger scored on a 29-yard run; Gerald Anderson scored on a 43-yard run and a Greyhounds punt snap landed in the end zone for another score for the Polar Bears. Justin Roseberry’s 34-yard touchdown jaunt was the highlight for the Greyhounds, who were held to 70-yards total offense, including minus one yard passing.
The Patriots of Red Land (2-3 overall, 1-1 Mid-Penn Commonwealth) defeated the Colts of Cedar Cliff (2-3 overall, 1-2 Mid-Penn Commonwealth) 26-14 at mutually shared West Shore Stadium. Patriots senior Luke Cox carried 34 times for 219 yards and 2 touchdowns. A combination of Cox and Brian Danner, behind an offensive line that was moving Colts aside with regularity, allowed Red Land to surge ahead 19-7 at halftime. Quarterback Mike DeTemple picked up a bobbled snap on fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line and scored to make it 26-7 in favor of the Patriots.
