District 3 Notes for York & Adams Counties – Week Four

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division I action:

 

The Panthers of Central York (4-0 overall, 1-0 YAIAA Division I) shut out the Mustangs of South Western (0-4 overall, 0-1 YAIAA Division I) 21-0 at the Mustang Corral.  The Mustangs run defense was stellar as they held the Panthers to 45-yards on 26 carries, but Eric Schwartz completed 8 passes for 169-yards, including an 18-yard touchdown to Ryan Ortyl to open the scoring.  Ortyl caught 2 passes for 52-yards, Anjelo Kellum caught 3 for 45-yards, and Shane Gilbert with 1 for 36-yards, Matt Nugent with 1 for 18-yards and Garyon Johnson with 1 for 18-yards kept drives going for the Panthers, enabling Ryan Brumner to score on runs of 1 and 3-yards.  Pat Strine intercepted a Mustangs pass from the 10 and returned it to the 3 to set up the final score.  The Mustangs rang up 152-yards rushing, led by Jason Gigous with 78 yards, followed by Shawn Rider with 30, Joe Ault with 18, Tim Smith with 14 and Robert Barnett, Aaron Repman and Cody Smith with 7-yards each.  J. C. Laughlin completed 4 passes for 53-yards for the Mustangs, and a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Renoll was negated by a penalty.

 

The Lions of Red Lion (1-3 overall, 1-0 YAIAA Division I) defeated the Rockets of Spring Grove (2-2 overall, 0-1 YAIAA Division I) 36-20.  Joseph Doyle with 74-yards, and Matt Barsinger with 47-yards, led the Lions rushing attack.  Taylor Green rushed for 31-yards, including touchdowns of 2 and 6-yards, and passed for 108-yards, including touchdowns of 25-yards to Ed Kiser and 7-yards to Andrew Downs.  Downs also returned an interception 42-yards for a Lions score.  Erik Brough led the Rockets rushing attack with 81-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown; Matt Marshall passed for 138-yards, including touchdowns of 3-yards to Corey Baker and 12-yards to Jayson Senft; and Nicholas Geesey kicked a 32-yard field goal.

 

The Wildcats of Dallastown (1-3 overall, 1-0 YAIAA Division I) defeated the Colonials of New Oxford (1-3 overall, 0-1 YAIAA Division I) 42-21.  This was the Kyle O’Donnell show as the senior rushed for 289-yards and 6 touchdowns, on runs of 40, 1, 47, 55, 25 and 47-yards, for the Wildcats.  Adam Smith rushed for 176-yards, including touchdowns of 7 and 4-yards, and Alex Smith rushed for 56-yards and passed for 38-yards, including a 35-yard touchdown to Shane Shultz, for the Colonials.

 

The Bearcats of William Penn (2-2 overall, 0-0 YAIAA Division I) defeated the Royals of Pius X (1-3) 53-15 in independent action.  Lamar Hughes rushed for 170-yards, including touchdowns of 3, 19 and 5-yards; Shavell Jones rushed for 106-yards, including a 77-yard touchdown; Randale Preston scored twice on runs of 1 and 2-yards; and Jordan Davis scored on a 47-yard run for the Bearcats.  Adam Zara led the Royals rushing attack with 42-yards, including a 7-yard touchdown, and Sophomore Wade Williams passed for 128-yards, including a 66-yard touchdown to Eric Woodruff.

 

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division II action:

 

The Warriors of Susquehannock (4-0 overall, 1-0 YAIAA Division II) defeated the Bulldogs of West York (1-3 overall, 0-1 YAIAA Division II) 49-7.  Chaz Powell led the Warriors with 121-yards rushing, including touchdowns of 9 and 65-yards; Joe Mummert rushed for 81-yards, including a 31-yard touchdown; Justin Markel rushed for 64-yards, including a 5-yard touchdown; and Cody Baker scored on a 2-yard run for the Warriors.  Andy McCoy passed for 173-yards, including touchdowns of 50-yards to Mike Potteiger and 32-yards to Josh Winemiller, for the Warriors.  Ed Wintermyers led the Bulldogs with 28-yards rushing and Rob Estep passed for 200-yards, including a 78-yard touchdown to Josh Koht (who caught 3 passes for 120-yards).

 

The Trojans of York Suburban (4-0 overall, 1-0 YAIAA Division II) shut out the Irish of York Catholic (0-4 overall, 0-1 YAIAA Division II) 35-0.  Dustin Gatewood rushed for 143-yards, including 4 touchdowns on runs of 37, 8, and 16-yards, and he scored a touchdown on a 32-yard pass from Marc Bower for the Trojans.  Bower completed 8 passes for 153-yards, including 3 for 38-yards to Derrick Bass, 2 for 32-yards to Zach Reider.  Kraig Reinhold returned an interception 35-yards for another Trojans score.  Seth Hake rushed for 31-yards and Scott Lehmann passed for 76-yards, including 2 for 50-yards to Sean Johnston and 3 for 26-yards to Joe Fabie, for the Irish.

 

The Eagles of Dover (1-3 overall, 1-0 YAIAA Division II) trounced the Golden Knights of Eastern York (0-4 overall, 0-1 YAIAA Division II) 51-7.  Dan Fahringer led the Eagles rushing attack with 77-yards, followed by Brandon Beck with 70-yards, including a 60-yard touchdown; Mike Stough rushed for 50-yards, including touchdowns of 3 and 4-yards; Jeremy Wildasin rushed for 53-yards, including a 27-yard touchdown; Billy Troup scored on a 30-yard run for the Eagles.  Stough also scored on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Colt Zarilla, who passed for 73-yards and kicked a 22-yard field goal.  The Golden Knights had minus 9-yards rushing in the game and backup quarterback Eric Livelsberger completed 3 passes for 94-yards, including a 50-yard touchdown to Chad Richardson to avoid a shut out.

 

York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Division III action:

 

The Eagles of Bermudian Springs (3-1 overall, 1-0 YAIAA Division III) shut out the Knights of Fairfield  (2-2 overall, 0-1 YAIAA Division III) 62-0.  Luke Mummert led the Eagles with 121-yards rushing, including touchdowns of 50 and 13-yards; Ryan Spahr rushed for 91-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown; Nathaniel Rill rushed for 71-yards, including a 59-yard touchdown; Tyler Smith rushed for 54-yards, including touchdowns of 8 and 3-yards; Brian Ford rushed for 41-yards, including a 10-yard touchdown; and Davey Zaminsky rushed for 22-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown, for the Eagles.  Zaminsky also passed for 48-yards, including a 33-yard touchdown to Kohl Curran.  Corey Staples garnered 14-yards rushing on 12 carries and Robby Potts completed 4 passes for 31-yards for the Knights.

 

The Squires of Delone Catholic (2-2 overall, 1-0 YAIAA Division III) romped over the Nighthawks of Hanover (1-3 overall, 0-1 YAIAA Division III) 41-19.  Joe Sorice rushed for 174–yards, including touchdowns of 17, 60 and 56-yards; John Steiber rushed for 79-yards, including a 19-yard touchdown; Luke Smith scored on a 6-yard run; and Seth Grimm passed for 48-yards, including a 7-yard touchdown to Nathan Bennett, for the Squires.  Matt Trish returned a kickoff 93-yards for a touchdown and scored another on a 9-yard pass from Nic Shirey, and James Leedy scored on a 77-yard run for the Knighthawks.  Leedy rushed for 88-yards and Chris Tarbart rushed for 57.

 

The Thunderbolts of Littlestown (3-1 overall, 1-0 YAIAA Division III) shut out the Spartans of York County Tech (2-2 overall, 0-1 YAIAA Division III) 61-0.  Nate Rolon had a game high 88-yards rushing, including touchdowns of 8 and 13-yards; Zach Fair recovered a fumble and returned it 10-yards for a touchdown; Zach Beaver rushed for 34-yards, including a 27-yard touchdown, and passed for 90-yards, including touchdown passes of 36-yards to Tim Lookingbill, 28-yards to Corey Hegarty and 25-yards to Evan Bair, for the Thunderbolts.  Evan Arndt and Corey Helm also scored rushing touchdowns for the Thunderbolts.  Marc Bonner led the Spartans meager offense with 25-yards rushing and Kevin Stump passed for 67-yards.

 

The Rams of Kennard-Dale (2-2 overall, 0-0 YAIAA Division II) edged the Canners of Biglerville (1-3 overall, 0-0 YAIAA Division III) 25-13 in independent action.  Brandon Marousek rushed for 122-yards, including touchdowns of 1 and 3-yards, and Justin Boland passed for 105-yards, including touchdowns of 34-yards to Mike Green and 8-yards to Justin Lane (who caught 3 passes for 40-yards), for the Rams.  Ryan Wagaman rushed for 54-yards, including a 3-yard touchdown, and completed 15 passes for 162-yards, including an 8-yard touchdown to Tyrel Taughinbaugh (who caught 5 passes for 63-yards), for the Canners.  Travis Kuykendall caught 4 passes for 54-yards and Craig Tipton caught 2 for 22-yards.

 

The Warriors of Gettysburg (4-0 overall, 1-0 Mid-Penn Keystone Division) defeated the Trojans of Hershey (1-3 overall, 0-1 Mid-Penn Keystone Division) 32-7.  R. J. VanBrakle led the Warriors with 71-yards rushing, including a 22-yard touchdown, and had 2 interceptions; Evan Lewis rushed for 19-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown; and Lewis completed 12 passes for 199-yards, including touchdowns of 69, 3 and 5-yards to Terrill Barnes.  Barnes caught 6 passes for 126-yards, intercepted a Trojans pass and returned it 58-yards, and returned a punt for 44-yards.  Brad Thompson ended a 65-yard Trojans drive with an interception in the end zone for the Warriors.  Matt Kulbacki led the Trojans with 62-yards rushing, including a 3-yard touchdown, and 4 pass receptions for 23-yards, and Chris Walizer completed 13 passes for 119-yards.

 

The Polar Bears of Northern York (2-2 overall, 1-0 Mid Penn Colonial) shut out the Blue Devils of Green Castle-Antrim (3-1 overall, 0-1 Mid Penn Colonial) 38-0.  Mike Romagnoli rushed for 211-yards, including touchdowns of 68, 5 and 7-yards; Jimmy Miller scored a touchdown on a 2-yard run; Ryan Stephenson returned an interception 39-yards for a touchdown; and Colby Betz completed 5 passes for 55-yards for the Polar Bears.  Conrad Myers rushed for 45-yards, Tyreek Thrush followed with 22-yards, and Travis Smith completed 3 passes for 16-yards for the Blue Devils.

 

The Wildcats of Central Mountain (1-3) outlasted the Patriots of Red Land (1-3 overall, 0-1 Mid-Penn Commonwealth) 31-21 in independent action.  No further information about this game was available.
