District 3 Notes for York & Adams Counties  (Week One)

The Mid-Penn’s Warriors of Gettysburg shut out the YAIAA’s Mustangs of South Western 27-0.  This one boiled down to the Evan Lewis and Terrill Barnes show.  Lewis, only a sophomore, completed 15 of 20 passes for 269-yards and his favorite receiver was Barnes, who caught 9 passes for 189-yards, including touchdowns of 69, 15 and 20-yards.  Just to add a little variety, Lewis also threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to J. D. Stahl, who caught 4 passes for 36-yards.  Chris Vivaldi led the Warriors rushing attack with 119-yards.  Joe Ault with 58-yards, Tim Smith with 55-yards, Jason Gigous with 18-yards, Cody Smith with 10-yards and Robert Barnett with 2-yards (before leaving the game with an injury) carried the rushing load for the Mustangs.  J. C. Laughlin completed 7 passes for 78-yards, including 2 for 48-yards to Drew Snyder, 3 for 12-yards to Jason Gigous, 1 for 12-yards to Cody Smith and 1 for 6-yards to Jeremy Renoll for the Mustangs.

 

The YAIAA’s Panthers of Central York celebrated their first game at their brand new high school and beautiful brand new artificial turf stadium with a convincing 28-7 victory over the Mid-Penn’s Indians of Susquehanna Township.  Eric Schwartz completed 16 passes for 150-yards, including touchdown passes of 8 and 11-yards to Anjelo Kellum and 5-yards to Jeremy Thrush, for the Panthers.  Matt Nugent led the Panthers rushing attack with 42-yards and Shane Gilbert scored a touchdown on a 10-yard run.  Ray Wagner passed for137-yards, including a 33-yard touchdown to Daniel Lee, for the Indians.  The Indians had minus 70-yards rushing for the night.

 

The YAIAAs Division II Bulldogs of West York defeated the Division I Wildcats of Dallastown 22-6.  Zak Kern returned the opening kickoff 78-yards for a Bulldogs touchdown.  Nate Harmer chipped in with field goals of 35, 33 and 27-yards.  Rob Estep’s 13-yard touchdown pass to Zach Snellbaker completed the scoring for the Bulldogs.  Estep completed 9 of 27 passes for 45-yards.  Quarterback Zach Shue completed 9 passes for 143-yards and rushed for 24-yards for the Wildcats.  Four of those passes went to Matt Miller for 80-yards.  Kyle O’Donnel led the Wildcats rushing attack with 52-yards, including a 5-yard touchdown.

 

The Division II Warriors of Susquehannock soundly defeated the Division I Colonials of New Oxford 35-7.  Quarterback Andy McCoy threw for 221-yards and 4 touchdowns, including 51-yards to Joe Mummert, 48-yards to Ian Childers and 34 and 24-yards to Mike Potteiger, and scored on a 4-yard run for the Warriors.  Cody Baker led the Warriors rushing game with 60-yards.  Adam Smith rushed for 90-yards, including a 19-yard touchdown jaunt, and Alex Smith completed 6 passes for 52-yards for the Colonials.

 

The Lancaster-Lebanon League’s Bulldogs of Wilson outlasted the YAIAA’s Lions of Red Lion 39-35.  Eric Hetrich completed 17 passes for 319-yards and 5 touchdowns; including 7-yards to Jake Stopper, 67-yards to Josh Smith, 26-yards to Brad McFadden, 25-yards to Andrew Borkey and 9-yards to Josh Alger, for the Bulldogs.  Stopper rushed for 216-yards, including a 24-yard touchdown, and Smith caught 5 passes for 130-yards.  Taylor Green completed 16 passes for 284-yds, including touchdowns of 55, 40 and 52-yards to Ed Kiser, who caught 7 passes for 195-yards, and 25-yards to Trent Thomas, for the Lions.  Matt Barshinger rushed for 37-yards and scored on a 4-yard run for the Lions.

 

The YAIAA’s Rockets of Spring Grove blasted the Lancaster-Lebanon League’s Spartans of Garden Spot 34-16.  Senior sensation, and highly scouted by the colleges, quarterback Matt Marshall completed 12 passes for 147-yards, including touchdown passes of 30-yards to Erik Brough and 33-yards to Mike Langer, for the Rockets.  Brough also rushed for 124-yards, including touchdowns of 21 and 17-yards, and Langer rushed for 57-yards, including a 1-yard touchdown.  Eric Wisler returned an interception for a 70-yard score, Dan Fisher scored on a 12-yard run and Matt Hess kicked a 26-yard field goal for the Spartans.

 

The Mid-Penn’s Patriots of Red Land beat the YAIAA’s Bearcats of William Penn of York 14-7.  Luke Cox rushed for 78-yards, including touchdowns of 2 and 13-yards, and his brother Matt chipped in with 81-yards rushing for the Patriots.  Todd Swartz returned a kickoff 69-yards to set up the game winning second touchdown run by Cox.  Tysen Dicksen completed 6 passes for 113-yards and scored a touchdown on a 4-yard run for the Bearcats.  Shavell Jones led the Bearcats rushing attack with 15 carries for 75-yards.

 

The Mid Penn’s Colts of Cedar Cliff beat the YAIAA’s Eagles of Dover 33-6.  Ben Leach kicked field goals of 43 and 35-yards for the Colts, and Phil Pantalone passed for 124-yards, including touchdown passes of 64 and 7-yards to Jordan McClure.  Varon Butts rushed for 85-yards, including a 27-yard touchdown.  Billy Troup returned a kickoff 35-yards, leading to a 20-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Colt Zarilla to Garrett Litsinger for the Eagles.

 

The Lancaster-Lebanon League’s Crimson Tide of Columbia rolled over the YAIAA’s Golden Knights of Eastern York 78-7.  Joe Williams rushed for 196-yards, including touchdowns of 84, 21 and 10-yards.  Ben Guiles rushed for 62-yards and scored on runs of 17 and 45-yards, a 24-yard pass from Michael Seibert and a 100-yard interception return.  Michael Behrens returned a fumble 36-yards for a score, Edgar Maleando scored on a 47-yard run, Bill Aston scored on a 9-yard pass from Bill Gambler and Damien Seals scored on a 4-yard run for the Crimson Tide.  Josh Slate completed 9 passes for 93-yards and scored on a one-yard run for the Golden Knights.  Six of those passes went to Chad Richardson for 57-yards.

 

The YAIAA’s Trojans of York Suburban defeated the Mid-Penn’s Greyhounds of Shippensburg 16-11.  Zach Reider kicked a 37-yard field goal, Marc Bower completed 5 passes for 96-yards, including a 25-yard touchdown to Glyn Hinnenkamp, and Dustin Gatewood, who rushed for 108-yards, scored on a one yard plunge for the Trojans.  Daniel Brubaker kicked a 32-yard field goal and Milton Webber, who led the Greyhounds rushing attack with 35-yards, scored on a 15-yard run.  Craig Van Scyoc completed 5 passes for 63-yards for the Greyhounds.

 

The YAIAA’s Eagles of Bermudian Springs bested the Mid-Penn’s Polar Bears of Northern York 35-28.  Davey Zaminsky completed 11 passes for 275-yards, including touchdown passes of 45-yards to Tyler Smith and 28-yards to Kohl Curran, and scored on a 2-yard run for the Eagles.  Smith also rushed for 113-yards, including a 6-yard touchdown, and Ryan Spahr rushed for 90-yards, including a 20-yard touchdown.  Dane Eichelberger returned a kickoff 99-yards for a Polar Bears score and Colby Betz completed 7 passes for 164-yards, including touchdown passes of 32-yards to Ryan Stephenson and 79-yards to Brett Seik.  Mike Romagnoli added 61-yards rushing, including a 5-yard touchdown, for the Polar Bears.

 

The WPIAL’s Eagles of South Park, top ranked in the Spots Fever High School Class AA poll, upended the YAIAA’s Canners of Biglerville 43-18.  Conor Dixon completed 7 passes for 156-yards, including touchdowns of 38, 28 and 25-yards to Brandon Detweiler, and St. Dotson rushed for 149-yards, including touchdowns of 69 and 12-yards, for the Eagles.  Zach Dittmar returned a blocked punt 42-yards for a score, Ryan Wagaman, who completed 6 passes for 109-yards, threw a 72-yard touchdown heave to Travis Kuykendall, and Wagaman scored on a 2-yard run for the Canners.

 

The YAIAA’s Squires of Delone Catholic shut out the Pioneer League’s Winged Lions of St. Pius X 33-0.  Nate Bennett rushed for 62-yards, including a 17-yard touchdown, and Joe Sorice rushed for 62-yards, including a 23-yard touchdown, for the Squires.  John Steiber, 55-yards, Jake Hockensmith, 43-yards, Michael Kale, 34-yards, and a host of other runners, contributed to the Squires 281-yards rushing.  Tyler Hagaman caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Christopher Burton and a 14-yard touchdown pass from Seth Grim, and David Hertz returned a recovered fumble 35-yards for a Squires touchdown.  Bruce Parkinson rushed for 118-yards for the Winged Lions they only netted 96 rushing yards and 13 passing yards for the night.

 

The YAIAA’s Knights of Fairfield began their third season of varsity football with their second consecutive (and second overall) win with a 44-13 victory over the Spartans of Bishop Walsh from Cumberland, Maryland, making the debut of new coach Stu Mackintosh a happy one.  Sophomore Corey Staples rushed for 124-yards, including touchdowns of 9, 1 and 11-yards, and caught a 50-yard pass from Robby Potts for his fourth touchdown for the Knights.  Ryan Shultz added 60-yards rushing, including a 34-yard touchdown, and Robby Koons added 51-yards rushing, including a 9-yard touchdown, for the Knights.  An 85-yard kickoff return by Sneathen and a 52-yard touchdown pass from Shewbridge to Ashby were the highlights for the Spartans.

 

The Blazers of Daniel Boone trounced the YAIAA’s Nighthawks of Hanover 49-6.  Nate Romig rushed for 147-yards, including touchdowns of 10, 4 and 10-yards, and caught 2 passes for 39-yards, including an 8-yard touchdown, for the Blazers.  Chris Bokosky completed 13 passes for 187-yards, including touchdowns of 10-yards to Dexter Russell, 1-yard to Josh Sheriff and the one to Romig.  Russell caught 8 passes for 133-yards.  Mark Justice opened the scoring for the Blazers with a 78-yard punt return for a touchdown.  Matt Trish returned a kickoff 75-yards for the only score for the Knighthawks.  He also led the rushing attack with 8 carries for 64-yards.

 

The YAIAA’s Rams of Kennard-Dale shut out the Lancaster-Lebanon League’s Braves of Pequea Valley 27-0.  Justin Boland completed 10 passes for 108-yards, including a 6-yard touchdown strike to Brandon Marousek.  Marousek, who set a team rushing record last year, rushed for 100-yards, including a 57-yard touchdown scamper.  Boland also rushed for 44-yards, including a 11-yard touchdown.  Kyle West added a touchdown on a 47-yard run for the Rams.  Shawn Murphy led the Braves with 75-yards rushing and Scott Grainger completed 3 passes for 40-yards.

 

The YAIAA’s Thunderbolts of Littlestown bested the Royals  of Pius X 27-7.  Nate Rolon rushed for 117-yards, including touchdowns of 7 and 26-yards, and Brian Zelanko rushed for 56-yards, including touchdowns of 21 and 2-yards for the Thunderbolts.  A 28-yard punt return by Evan Arndt set up the Thunderbolts first score.  Cole Hildabrand passed for 90-yards, including a 2-yard touchdown to Ian McElroy, for the Royals.

 

The Lancaster-Lebanon League’s Pioneers of Lampeter Strasburg shut out the YAIAA’s Fighting Irish of York Catholic 32-0.  Austin Rutt rushed for 147-yards, including touchdowns of 66 and 77-yards, Blake Mitchell rushed for 64-yards, including touchdowns of 3 and 7-yards, and Justin Taylor rushed for 53-yards, including a 5-yard touchdown, for the Pioneers.  Scott Lehmann completed 7 passes for 84-yards, including 2 for 42-yards to Sean Johnston and 2 for 20-yards to Miguel Vasquez, for the Fighting Irish.

 

The YAIAA’s Spartans of York County Tech shut out the Warriors of Carson Long 50-0.  Ryan Scott carried twice for the Spartans, with touchdowns of 73 and 54-yards.  He also kicked 4 extra points.  Marc Bonner rushed for 64-yards, including touchdowns of 37 and 20-yards, and Justin Brown scored on a 4-yard run and a 55-yard punt return.  Bruce Kessler rushed for 38-yards, including a 6-yard touchdown.  Kevin Stump registered a safety and the team registered another safety for the Spartans.  Segun Mallard led the Warriors with 81-yards rushing and Jim Sayday led the passing attack with 4 completions for 18-yards.
