Steelton Drops Upper Saint Clair, 29-17
Trailing 14-13 at the half, Steelton coach Joe Shevock told his Rollers that they needed a gut check. That they would have to play a lot harder to beat Coach Jim Render's Panther squad. "We looked it as a blue collar vs white collar game," Shevock told the press in a post-game interview. "There was no way we wanted to let them put our noses into the ground."
Jim Render spoke glowingly of the Steelton tailback Gibby Reich. "I'm not sure ho to stop that kid. He was amazing. And I have to praise Coach Shevock. He had been running a single wing, and the wide-open rules of these playoffs dictated a more modern formation."
Enter Steelton newly-adopted quarterback Vic Donato, who showed his athletic prowess as did his athletic receivers as they consistently turned short passes into larger gains. Donato distributed the ball well amongst five receivers.
The Rollers allowed a harmless field goal in the 4th quarter.
