Neshaminy Upsets Tech; Neky's Interception Keys the Win
Two high-powered offenses were kept out of the end zone on Saturday as the defenses took over. When the dust had cleared, Neshaminy got the better of it as the 'Skins picked off three Harrisburg Tech passes and sacked George Garmer 4 times. (Garmer was used at QB when Bud Lingle injured his knee.) OLB Joe Neky picked off a flat pass intended for Zip Malick and raced 31-yards untouched for the only non-field goal scoring of the day.
Coach Paul Smith's juggernaut was thwarted by a bigger , faster group along the front line.
"They shut down two great backs today," Smith told the press. "Carl Beck and Tony Wilsbach are the best backs I've seen or coached, and the Redskins shut them down today. My hat goes off to Coach Jack Swartz. He has one fine team."
Swartz was equally impressed with the guys from Tech. "They played their hearts out. I didn't think we could contain those backs but my boys did a wonderful job. Coach Smith's defense also shut down my offense. That was no small task. Today people got to see a game that will surely go down as one of the best defensive efforts ever in Pennsylvania High School football."
