Neshaminy Dominates Windber at Trojan Stadium
Golden Toe Dale Forchetti booted three field goals and was perfect on two PATs for a very solid Neshaminy team at Johnstown's Point Stadium where over 17,000 assembled to watch a game for the ages.
"Their kicker really put us in the hole," stated an obviously dejected Coach Joe "Pearly" Gates. "That kid can kick the rock! Their kid at quarterback (Pete Cordelli) really mixed it up. It seemed like he completed every pass tonight and their running game (Pete Schupakus and Bruce Traney) kept our backers off balance. I can't see any team beating them now."
Coach Jack Swartz felt that his team had to play a perfect game to top Windber. He may have just witnessed such a game. Neshaminy was nearly flawless on both sides of the ball. "We knew the Marino kid could throw and that they had a couple of pretty fast backs," Swartz said, beaming as his players drenched him with several bottles of SunDrop cola, bottled at nearby Cassandra. "We just played good old-fashioned Neshaminy football. Now we have to get ready for Coal Township. That won't be easy. We're going to take the kids to the Flood Museum and then to Lilly for a stop-off at Stineys... then back home and start to get ready for next week."
Fullback Bruce Traney spoke for the team when he remarked, "We just wanted to show our team can play with anybody. Coach had us ready. Our defense (the Oklahoma 5-2) was awesome. We beat an excellent team today, but we're not done. We have two more games to win."
Neshaminy will meet an equally tough Coal Township team next Saturday at a
site to be determined.
Former Windber player and Arizona State head coach Frank Kush was present for
pre-game and half-time Ceremonies. Larry Kmenciek and his One-Hound band
performed at halftime.
