The second week of Delaware County High School football featured the defeat of several pre season favorites.

The Conestoga Pioneer's rated 10th In (Delaware County Sports.Com) top twenty scored a mild upset over number 5 ranked Strath Haven. The hard fought defensive battle was not decided until Pioneer quarterback Leroi Leviston scrambled five yards for the winning touchdown in the second overtime period.

Cardinal O'Hara (Rated #3) suffered an early season set back to number one North Penn with four lost fumbles allowing North Penn to squeak out a 35-28 victory.

Meanwhile number twelve Interboro suffered a tough 20-15 loss to Monsignor Bonnor. The Friar defense held the Bucs to just 6 first downs and 142 total yards on the night.

In addition number nine Ridley lived up to its promise showing a potent running attack to support  receiver Dino Vasso on its way to a 19-0 victory over the Aces of Lower Merion. Look for Ridley to move up the list this week.

A few unranked teams look to move into top twenty consideration. These include Upper Darby and Penncrest. The Royals scored an impressive 43-13 victory over Radnor with a balanced attack leading to 403 total yards lead by the disciplined running of Simoni Lawrence with 212 yards on 19 carries.

The Penncrest Lions capped a come from behind victory over Springfield when Dave Bixler grabbed a fourth and thirty prayer from quarterback Greg Tyrrell with just 59 seconds left in the game and a 12-7 win.

The games to watch next week start with Ridley at Strath Haven for another Central League showdown. Another don’t miss might be a Catholic League contest featuring West Catholic at Cardinal O'Hara played at Widener University while Upper Darby hosts Marple Newtown in another intriguing Central League match.
