McSHERRYTOWN - It was senior night for Delone Catholic at J.T. Flaherty field Friday night. Delone Catholic looked in control until the end of the third quarter when Bermudian Springs found the right combination to put points on the board. The Eagles came back from a 13-7 deficit to win 20-19.

This game was big for both teams’ playoff hopes. The win obviously helps the Eagles, but the Squires can still be in a three-way tie atop their division with a win over Littlestown next week.

Delone Catholic started the scoring after a fumble recovery by Trevor Morley. At the
1:56 mark of the first quarter, Joseph Sorice went in for an 18-yard touchdown. Nathan Bennett kicked the extra point and the Squires led 7-0.

Their next score came at the
4:37 mark of the second quarter on a pass from Seth Grim to Bennett for eight yards. The extra point was no good and the Squires went into half time with a 13-0 lead.

Whatever was said at h
alf time worked for the Eagles as they scored on a touchdown pass from David Zaminski to Clint Kramer with 3:10 to go in the third quarter. Zaminski added the extra point to make the score 13-7.

Delone Catholic tried to take back the Eagles’ momentum. They tried to drive down and score only to be intercepted by Jeff Frantz of the Eagles with twenty-three seconds to go in the third quarter. The Eagles did not convert however.

The Squires came back with a fumble recovery that led to a two-yard touchdown run by Bennett with
9:15 to go in the game. The two-point conversion failed and Delone Catholic continued to lead 19-7.

But Bermudian Springs was just warming up. They had two long touchdown passes, the first coming at the
7:44 mark with Kohl Curran scoring on a fifty-one yard pass. The extra point was not good. The second touchdown pass was thirty-two yards to Curran and came with only 1:03 left in the game. This time Zaminski’s extra point was good. That extra point would be the winning point scored for Bermudian Springs.

Delone Catholic tried in vain to take back the lead but were interecepted with thirty-eight seconds to go in the game. The Eagles held on and won 20-19.

The Squires’ defense forced three fumbles and six sacks. They held up well against the Eagles’ offense which is considered the area’s top offense.
