Dawgs cash in, down Millionaires 51-20
By Frank Kastreva, WVCD2.com
Berwick went on the road this week, traveling to Williamsport, home of the Millionaires. In a game that was flooded by yellow flags, mostly on the part of Billport, Berwick left town with a 51-20 win. Williamsport helped the Dawgs get the job done with 13 penalties for 123 total yards, 5 of them 15 yard unsportsmanlike calls. Berwick's SR. RB Brant Quick rushed for 135 yards on 23 carries with 3 TD's, while Sr. QB Mike Walton rushed for 141 yards scoring 2 TD's.
Berwick opened the scoring on their first drive, going 55 yards on 7 plays. Quick capped the drive on a 1 yard run. Williamsport blocked the PAT, with the score Dawgs 6 Billport 0.
Williamsport answered right back on their first series, Sr. QB Stephen Tressler hit Sr. WR Nathan Baier on a 64 yard TD strike. Billport tried running the ball in on the PAT because of a bad snap but failed, with the score Dawgs 6 Billport 6.
Berwick would score on their next series with Walton and Quick doing much of the work on the ground. Sr. Tristan DiPippa pitched in with a pass reception on the drive, with Walton capping things of on a 5 yard keeper. The Dawgs decided to go for 2 and Walton again got it done on another QB keeper, with the score Dawgs 14 Billport 6.
Berwick's Sr. DB Pete Celona, who has at least one great play each week, got his big one this week on a 32 yard interception return to the Billport 9 yard line. From there Walton rushed to the 2 yard line, Quick would find paydirt 2 plays later and Jr. K Zach Alley would boot through the PAT with the score Dawgs 21 Billport 6.
Williamsport would again answer back, scoring on a 16 yard TD strike from Tressler to Jr. WR Shamaar Coates. Tressler would also throw a 72 yarder to set Billport up at the Dawgs' 19 yard line 4 plays earlier. Williamsport's 2 point try failed, with the score Dawgs 21 Billport 12.
Berwick would tack one more on before the half, a 7 play drive going 59 yards capped off by Walton on a 5 yard scamper to paydirt. Berwick again was helped along the way with 2 penalties by Billport, one a 15 yarder. The score would stand at 28-12 at the half with both teams heading to their respective locker rooms.
The Dawgs would score 4 more times in the 2nd half, a 23 yard FG by Alley, a 77 yard TD reception by So. WR Gordan Law from Walton, a 2 yard dash by Quick and a 18 yard scamper by Sr. RB Josh Walsh.
Willimsport would manage to find the scoreboard one more time when Sr. Nathan Engel returned a blocked put for a TD. That was Billport's highlight of the 2nd half, the rest of the time they spent taking needless penalties. Like spiking the ball after scoring on the blocked punt, still down by 25 points to boot, not good football!
One interesting thing worth noting, at the end of the game there were police officers on horseback down at the end of the field, also one with a K9. Seems quite strange that you would have to have that much security after a high school football game. Did someone say Williamsport was moving to another conference in the near future, or did I dream that.
