The end of the regular season sees Delaware Valley, Abington Heights,
Scranton Prep, Lakeland, Lackawanna Trail and Mid-Valley all advancing on
into the District 2 playoffs. Scranton, North Pocono, Old Forge and Bishop
O'Hara all will play in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Abington Heights (10-0) finished strong with a 35-0 win
over West Scranton (7-3). Abington was led by Devin
Hewlett (102 yards and 1 TD rushing of 1 yard). Jeremy Jayne added 242
yards and 2 TD's in the air to Jon Cadman (50 yards) and Mike Byrne (13
yards). Cadman also returned an INT 91 yards for a score.
Abington's other score came on a 31 yard INT return by John Habeeb.
Carbondale (6-4) gained a share of the LFC Division 2 crown
with a 35-14 win over Lakeland (7-3). Carbondale shared
the title with Lakeland and Scranton Prep.
Carbondale was led by Zach Lasavage (231 yards and 3 TD's rushing).
Lasavage scored on runs of 3, 65 and 37 yards. He also added a 30 yard FG.
Other Lakeland scores: Frank Brenzel (11 yard run) and Rich Hachan (19 yard
pass from Brenzel).
Lakeland scores: Drew Simonik (29 yard fumble return) and Louis Gonsauls (2
yard run).
Scranton Prep (7-3) eased by Western Wayne
(0-10) 48-3. Prep led 35-0 with 2:08 left in the 1st quarter.
Prep's Steve Malinchak threw for 3 TD's (3 yards to Joe Ruzbarsky, 16 yards
to Pat Jochum and 4 yards to Don Loftus).
Other Prep scores: Matt Rader (1 yard run), Dean Silvon (51 and 3 yard runs)
and Bob Hine (1 yard run).
James Histed booted a 26 yard FG for Western Wayne's only score.
North Pocono (8-2) knocked off Delaware Valley
(8-2) 21-20. Claude O'Connor led NP with 167 yards rushing (1 TD run of 2
yards).
Other NP scores: Matt Heffron (13 yard pass from Joe Richards) and Bill
Heard (10 yard pass from Richards).
Richards threw for 111 yards in the game.
DV scores: Richie Hearon (1 yard run), Kenny Domzalski (1 yard run) and Jeff
Briggs (15 yard pass from Hearon). Hearon threw for 154 yards.
Lackawanna Trail (8-2) shutout Mid-Valley
(6-4) 27-0. Josh Dixon ran for 119 yards in the win. Colin Dwyer led Trail
with 148 yards passing and 3 TD's rushing. Dwyer scored on runs of 7, 4 and
1 yard each.
Trail's other TD: Bill Clark's 70 yard run.
Trail will play Mid-Valley next week for the District 2 A title.
Mid-Valley's QB Ryan Rempe is done for the year with a severe ankle injury.
Old Forge (6-4) beat Riverside (1-9)
40-24. Brandon Gatto led OLd Forge with 218 yards and 2 TD's rushing (58
and 52 yard runs).
Other Old Forge scores: Mike DOran (36 yard run), Mark Alexander (33 and 37
yard passes from Doran), Chris Kaville (3 yard run).
Riverside scores: Justin Paroby (1 yard run), Joe Strok (17 yard run), Rich
Ross (14 yard pass from Paroby), Strok (45 yard pass from Paroby).
Paroby threw for 210 yards in the game.
Dunmore (4-6) knocked off Montrose (1-8)
19-8. Gatlin Garrett led Dunmore with 101 yards and 1 TD rushing (2 yard
run).
Other Dunmore scores: Kevin Spager (5 yard run) and Pat Hilson (52 yard INT
return).
Montrose score: Dominick Lucenti (4 yard run).
Scranton (6-3) defeated Honesdale (3-7)
39-7. Scranton was led by Kawon Shell (175 yards and 4 TD's rushing).
Shell scored on runs of 8, 3, 4 and 25 yards.
Other Scranton TD's Michael Weeks (9 yard pass from A.J. McKenna) and Pete
Dunford (6 yard pass from McKenna).
Honesdale score: Mike Matern (6 yard pass from Kyreek Johnson).
Valley View (4-6) eased by Wallenpaupack
(1-9) 42-7 behind the legs of Kyle Passeri. Passeri rushed for 220 yards
and 5 TD's (39, 2, 3, 21 and 33 yard runs).
Other VV score: Jeff Kushmerick (96 yard run). Kushmerick finished with 136
yards rushing.
'Paupack score: Jerome Borges (5 yard run).
Susquehanna (4-6) topped Bishop O'Hara
(7-3) 33-14. This was the 2nd win for Susquehanna over O'Hara this season.
Susquehanna scores: Anthony Dorunda (3, 5 and 7 yard TD runs). Kevin Kempa
(11 yard pass from Dorunda), Ernie Taylor (17 yard run).
Dorunda finished with 144 yards rushing.
O'Hara scores: Sean Madden (3 and 7 yard runs).
