NO OFFENSE: EAGLES FLY THE "KOTT" SHUT OUT BY COUGARS
Tonight, Bishop Shanahan's offense literally flew the "Kott" during
Downingtown East's homecoming. The Eagles only had 153 yards of offense,
and got shut out by Downingtown East, 24-0.
The Cougars moved the ball at will most of the game, only turning the ball
over once, and punting twice. The interception was on an underthrown ball
in the endzone. It was just an overall dull game.
Downingtown East opened the scoring in the second quarter, on a 40 yard
touchdown strike from Pete O'Connor to Todd Eagles- one of two touchdown
connections between the two in the second period. The second came on a 15
yard pass, for a 14-0 Cougar edge. The main thing Shanahan did was milk the
clock early in the game.
Like the first quarter, the third was the same- no scoring. However,
Downingtown East added 3 points on its advantage on a Derek McKinley 28 yard
field goal. The Cougar defense ended the scoring on a 4 yard interception
return by Willy Davis.
Up next for Shanahan (0-7, 0-3), is a Saturday home game against West
Chester East (6-1, 3-0). Coming up for Downingtown East (6-1, 3-0) is the
"Battle of Downingtown" against Downingtown West (6-1, 2-1).
QUOTABLE-
Mike Matta-
On why Richie Walls did not play- "Richie was a little banged up following
the Spring-Ford week, he will play the next couple games at 100%."
Preparing for Downingtown West- "They are difficult to prepare for, they run
a very diverse offense."
On Shanahan- "They are not a bad defensive ball club. They're better than
their 0-7 record."
Todd Eagles (Downingtown East WR)
- "We need to do better on offense than this, especially with Downingtown
West & West Chester East coming up the next 2 weeks."
Willy Davis
(On the INT for a touchdown)- "That interception goes to Coach Matta. He
puts us in the right places @ the right time."
(Preparing for West)- "Our preparation for West will be similar to that for
Shanahan. The main difference is that West has higher quality skill players
in Roshaan McCain and Nolan Kearney."
Paul Meyers (Shanahan Coach).
(On game prep)- "We did not find anything in their defense, they are very
well coached."
