TIGERS DOWN BEAVERS 8 - 0, CLAIM REGION 4 TITLE !!

Tyler Sargent slogged 19 yards for the TD of the game and the Fairview defense did the rest Friday night to record their second straight shut out as Fairview defeated Corry 8 - 0.  Jake Lightner's sack of the Corry quarterback with 3:19 to go in the game sealed the win for Fairview, which finished the regular season at 8 - 1 and 5 - 1 in Region 4.  The Tigers finished tied for first place with Harbor Creek, but will receive the automatic bid in the D - 10 playoffs due to their head to head win against the Huskies 35 - 13 in September.

The weather was as much of a story as the Tiger defense, with pouring rain and winds making the already muddy field almost unplayable. The Tiger defense limited the Beavers to just 1 first down and 15 total yards of offense.  E. J. Kruse and Bret Waples recorded fumble recoveries for Fairview in a game that featured 15 fumbles, 9 by the Beavers.  Kruse, Pat Michael and waples each recorded a sack, and team leader Matt Michael had 2 sacks, giving him 5 for the year.  Gary Corbin connected on 2 of 4 passes, both to Matt Sundberg, one a key 18 yarder to keep a nine minute drive alive in the third quarter.
Despite not getting into the end zone on that drive, the Tigers marched to the Beaver 15 yard line and used up valuable minutes in the second half.

Sargents score came on the third possession for the Tigers after Justin Haney returned a punt 26 yards to the Corry 20.  Three
plays later, Sargent bolted into the end zone from 19 yards out thanks to a key block by Brett Waples. Despite the rainy, windy conditions, both teams played relatively penalty free, with the Tigers getting flagged three times and the Beavers just twice.Fairview will learn this week of their playoof opponent, while the Beavers will wait for an at larger bid.  Corry plays a 10th game this week against Franklin, while Fairview is off.
