Eric Amendola Week 8
TIGERS CLAW JACKETS 34 - 0 !!
Gary Corbin scored two touchdowns in the first half on two quarterback
keepers, one a 63 yarder, to lead Fairview to 34 - 0 victory Friday night
against Girard. The win, the Tigers 5th in a row, sets up the showdown this
Friday against Corry, just a game behind the Tigers in the Region 4 chase.
Fairview wasted little time establishing its offense, scoring on its second
possession with a 22 yard run by Corbin in the first quarter. After holding
the Jackets on downs and taking over on the Fairview 21, the Tigers needed
just four plays to cover 79 yards, this time Corbin skirting around the left
side untouched on a 63 yard run, the longest of the season for the Tigers.
Zane Meeder's two extra points made it 14 - 0 at the half.
The Jackets, held to just 118 yards total offense, again gave the ball up on
downs to start the second half, and Fairview responded by going 52 yards in 9
plays, with Tyler Sargent getting the first of his two TD scores, this one
from 3 yards out to make it 21- 0. After Ryan Hayes recovered a Jacket
fumble, Farview went 63 yards in just 6 plays, with Jack McCann finishing off
the drive with a 4 yard run. Meeder's extra point was wide right leaving the
score 27 - 0. Mc Cann finished with 106 yards rushing on 22 carries, leaving
him with needing 82 yards this week to go over the 1,000 yard mark.
Tyler Sargent finished off the Fairview scoring going in from 7 yards out
following his own interception. Sargent returned a Jacket pass 39 yards to
the Girard 14. A late hit penalty put the ball on the Girard 7, where Sargent
scored on the Tiger's first play.
Corbin finished with 104 yards rushing on just four rushes, Pat Michael led
the defense with 12 tackles, giving him 111 for the season. E. J. Kruse
turned in his best performance of the season with eight tackles, including one
for a sack on a crucial fourth down play in the first half.
Friday's showdown with Corry at Linden field begins at 7:00 p.m.. Several
scenarios exist in Region 4 including the possibility of a five way tie for
first place. This could occur if Corry defeats Fairview, North East defeats
Harborcreek and Girard upsets Seneca. With only four teams expected to get
playoff invites to the D - 10 tournament, this weekend's games promise to be
very entertaining.
