TIGERS SQUASH PICKER HOMECOMING 28 - 7 !
Gary Corbin threw two touchdown passes, one a 33 yarder to Justin Haney with :20
left in the first half to lead the
Tigers to a 28 - 7 win on a windy but dry night at Ted Miller Field in North
East. Jack Mc Cann capped off an eight play, 52 yard drive with a 20 yard run
on the Tigers second possession to put the Tigers ahead 6 - 0 with 5:00 left in
the first quarter.
Zane Meeder's extra point was wide left keeping the score 6 - 0. With 4:38 left
in the half, the Tiger defense recorded their first of three interceptions when
Tyler Sargent stepped in front of a Grape Picker receiver at the Fairview 32.
The Tigers scored on a 4th and 8 play from the Picker 33 when Corbin led Haney
perfectly in the corner of the end zone for a 12 - 0 lead.
Corbin's 2 point conversion run gave the Tigers a 14 - 0 lead at the half.
Fairview scored on their first possession of the third quarter going 59 yards in
7 plays. Corbin found tight end Jake Lightner
from 17 yards out, threading the ball between two Picker defenders for a 20 - 0
lead with 5:39 left in the third quarter.
After a 37 yard kickoff return by Bryan Kirsch, the Pickers responded quickly
for their only score going 53 yards in just seven plays. Joe Rizzo scored the
lone NE touchdown from a yard out, and Troy Budziszewski's extra point closed
out the Picker scoring and cut the lead to 20 - 7 with 3:13 left in the third
quarter.
Fairview closed out the scoring for the night when Justin Haney snagged
Fairview's third interception of the night and took it 38 yards to the house for
a 26 - 7 lead with 7:39 left in the game. Matt Sundberg's 2 point conversion
catch from Gary Corbin completed the scoring and sealed the win for Fairview.
Jack Mc Cann went over the 100 yard mark rushing for the sixth time this season
with 115 yards on 22 carries, Justin Haney had 5 grabs for 64 yards, and Corbin
went 8 - 13 through the air for 100 yards and 2 TD's.
In addition to three interceptions, the Tiger defense had sacks from Casey
Patton, Jake Lightner and Dan Wettick, and 23 tackles from Pat Michael,
including 13 solo tackles. Gary Corbin also had a big night defensively with 14
tackles as Fairview
improved to 6 - 1 on the year and 3 - 1 in Region 4. The Tigers close out the
home portion of their schedule next week at Keck Field against arch rival Girard
at 7:00 p.m. Friday.
