Eric Amendola Week 6

TIGERS CLAW EAGLES 26 - 13 !!!!!

Gary Corbin threw three touchdown passes and the Fairview defense intercepted three Grove City passes while holding the high powered Eagle offense to just 250 yards in downing the Eagles 26 - 13 Friday night at Keck field.  Corbin, who now has 7 TD passes on the season with just a single interception, also ran for 110 yards on just 11 carries and had 7 tackles to help the defensive cause.  On Fairview's second possession of the game, Tyler Sargent capped off a 52 yard drive by breaking tackles to go in from 17 yards out and give the Tigers their first score of the night.  Zane Meeder's extra point (Meeder is 16 - 17 for the season on PATS) gave Fairview a 7 - 0 lead with 2:54 left in the opening quarter.  After a Grove City punt, Corbin connected with Jake Lightner on a 35 yard pass and run on a 4th down and 1 play from the GC 35.  Lightner drifted off the line of scrimmage and was unnoticed running down the sideline as Corbin led him with a perfect pass for a 13 - 0 lead.  A bobbled snap left the score 13 - 0 at halftime.  After a scoreless 3rd quarter, Fairview upped its lead to 19 - 0 midway through the 4th quarter when Corbin again found Lightner from 2 yards out.  A failed two point try left the score at 19 - 0, and began the hurry up offense for the Eagles, who were held to just two first downs and 113 total yards after three quarters.

Grove City got on the board after recovering a Tiger fumble on the Fairview 35.  Jay Haugh found Drew Bestwick on a 15 yard pass play with just under 5 minutes left for a 19 - 6 score after a missed two point try.  The Tigers recovered the ensuing on side kick, and answered the Eagles score going 56 yards for their last score. Gary Corbin scrambled 40 yards down the sideline to keep the drive alive, then found Tyler Sargent for his second TD of the game on a 13 yard reception.  The TD, Sargent's fifth in two weeks, closed out the Tiger scoring for the night.  The Eagles added a score with just 42 seconds left on a 15 yard run by Chris Clark.

One of the games biggest plays occured in the 4th quarter with Fairview leading 19 - 0 and Grove City driving for their potential
first score of the night.  Matt Sundberg picked off an Eagle pass in the endzone to squelch the drive, which allowed the Tigers to run off valuable minutes.  Justin Haney and E J Kruse also had interceptions for the Tigers, and Pat Michael led the charge up front with 12 tackles as Fairview improved to 5 - 1, 3 - 1 in Region 4.  Fairview will travel to North East Friday in a key Region 4 matchup at 7:00 p.m .
