Top Teams Take Tumble
September 12, 2007
By Joe Stokes
The second week of the 2007 season had a familiar ring to the 2006 season as several pre-season favorites suffered early season set backs.
Cardinal O’Hara ranked number one in Ed Thomas’ Southeastern Pa Top Twenty starting the week followed St Joe Prep by losing to North Penn. 30-16.. The O’Hara Lions hung with Knights for a 14-14 deadlock at half time but could not stop the big play North Penn offense in the third quarter. In a Central League showdown Ridley appeared ready to repeat its 2006 Championship year with an impressive 40-20 victory over perennial power Strath Haven.
This writer comes off a 50-17 prediction record for 2006 and starts 2007 with a 4-1 in last weeks prognostications. This writer should know better than to pick against Ridley and that game accounted for the only incorrect pick.
The featured game this week has Suburban One power Souderton traveling to North Penn for any early season showdown. Souderton returns most of its players from last years playoff run while North Penn seems to be just rolling along with two big wins already under their belt.
Prediction: North Penn 28 Souderton 13
Another game to watch this weekend has Chest-Mont League favorite West Chester Henderson hosting Inter-Act League power Malvern. Both these teams sit in Ed Thomas’ top ten and the winner will be determined by keeping mistakes to a minimum.
Prediction:
Malvern 35 West Chester
Here is the rest of my fearless forecast:
Prediction: Strath Haven 24 Radnor 14
Prediction: Don Bosco Prep 28 O’Hara 17
Prediction: Haverford
