HENDERSON ERUPTS EARLY- SPOILS COATESVILLE HOMECOMING, 26-0.

-PAUL SARPEN, Coatesville Area Multi-Purpose Stadium

The only difference from week to week for the West Chester Henderson Warriors, is their opponent.  For the seventh time in eight games this season, the result has been the same, a Warriors victory.  This week, Henderson scored on four of its five first half possessions in downing Coatesville on a Saturday afternoon game, 26-0.

It was typical Henderson football all first half- as the Warriors spread out the Coatesville defense with the option, then used counter offense and quarterback draws for big gains in the middle of the defense.  The game plan was a success to the tune of 3 touchdown runs by Warrior quarterback John O'Donnell, and a long run by two sport standout Jabair Khan.  Khan has committed to play baseball at Temple University.

According to Coatesville head coach Tom Nichols, "It was a Murphy's Law first half for us, everything that could go wrong went wrong for us.  We were in the right place to make tackles, but we did not make them, and got gashed on 3 touchdown runs of over 30 yards.  Offensively, we made too many mental mistakes- from penalties, wrong people in motion, to making bad reads."

Henderson opened up the scoring on a 1 yard quarterback sneak by John O'Donnell, his first of 3 on the day.  The best of the three scores, was on a perfectly executed draw play that went for 36 yards, on 4th down and 15. Halfback Jabair Khan expanded the Warrior advantage to 20-0, on a 32 yard run.  O'Donnell closed out the scoring on a 62 yard run.  Commenting on his two big runs on the shotgun draw, O'Donnell said that "They were aggressive, we caught them in a corner blitz both times.  The offensive line did their job, and it opened up the draw play both times."

Quarterback John O'Donnell said "We were excited to come into Coatesville, it's a great atmosphere.  Coatesville's kids are rough and aggressive on the field.  Now that the game is over- we have to focus on Avon Grove and Downingtown East, two good programs, and we are excited to play both of them."

The Henderson football team, is considered to be the best the Warriors have had spanning the last decade.  According to Warriors' coach Joe Walsh, "We could see this team coming for a couple years, this is a great group of kids.  I would say this team matches up well with our 2003 team, which won the Ches-Mont League.  What makes this team better than 2003, is that we have more team speed.  Honestly, this team reminds me of West Chester East's team last year."
