If ESPN's Lee Corso had been
standing on the Bloomsburg sideline after Danville had taken a 27-24 lead over
the Panthers with 50 seconds remaining in the Central Susquehanna Conference
crossover game Friday night, he might have uttered those words he has made so
famous.
In a classic "Not so fast, my friend" moment, Bloomsburg stunned the Ironmen
only 19 seconds later when Tyler Coombe hit Mike Tambasco with a 57-yard
touchdown pass to pull out a dramatic 31-27 victory and hand Danville its
second straight loss in the closing moments of a game.
Bloomsburg remained unbeaten while Danville feel to 2-2.
"We knew it was going to be a tough 48 minutes, not 47 and a half. But a
full 48 minutes," winning coach Larry Sones (a Danville graduate) told the
Sunbury Daily Item.
Quarterback Andrew Shoop, who finished the game 17-of-27 for 274 yards, hit
Jon Mrockosky with a 13 yard scoring pass to hand the Ironmen a 27-24 lead.
But Coombe, who had an equally good night throwing the ball (12-of-21 for 197
yards) hitting a streaking Tambasco who outraced the Danville defense for the
winning TD.
Jordan Klinger ran for 182 yards on 29 carries for Bloomsburg while Eric
Ryman had seven catches for 133 yards for the Ironmen.
Montoursville maintained its perfect record with a 34-6 CSC-I triumph over
Jersey Shore. Quarterback Chad Jacobson three for 215 yards and Mike Steele
produced 169 yards on the ground for the Warriors. Montour receiver caught
five passes for 164 yards.
Loyalsock hammered Hughesville 25-0 to end a five game losing streak to the
Spartans. Austin Knighton ran for 189 yards and three touchdowns for the
Lancers.
Mifflinburg broke a 14-all fourth quarter tie when John Himes - the
goalkeeper for the Wildcats' soccer team - booted a 27-yard field goal in his
first varsity attempt and linebacker Derek Wiand returned an interception 28
yards for a touchdown as Miff outlasted Central Columbia, 24-14. The Blue Jays
had forged the deadlock when Jacob Machinski ran for a 78-yard score.
Warrior Run topped punch less Shikellamy, 26-6, as Quaid Richart ran for 105
yards and two TDs. The Defenders defense limited the Braves to 57 yards
rushing and just six first downs.
Southern Columbia, working its way back for its loss to Bloomsburg doubled
up on improving Lewisburg, 42-21. Quarterback Ted Heitzman was 8-of-13 passing
for 235 yards, including an 84-yard scoring pass to Colby Snyder. Running back
Andrew Wimble ran for a pair of scores and ground out 115 yards in only 11
carries. Quarterback Devin Cassells sparked the Green Dragons with a 16-of-30
passing effort for 178 yards and 2 TDs.
Mount Carmel kept its grip on the Coal Bucket for the 12th straight year
with a 41-14 victory over Shamokin. Quarterback Marcus Wasilewski ran for two
touchdowns and threw for two more during a 222-yard passing night. Sophomore
Justin Pellowski caught five passes (two for TDs) for 163 yards.
Selinsgrove intercepted five Milton passes and Trevor Kerstetter ran for 101
yards in a 42-7 win over the Black Panthers.
Line Mountain's running game was too much for Juniata as the Eagles rolled
32-14. Line Mountain rolled up 338 yards on the ground as Jeremiah Lenker
rushed for 151 yards and two scores. Aaron Scheibelhut added 104 yards and a
score while Clark Morris tacked 85 yards and two TDs.
In an All America Conference showdown Columbia Montour Vo-Tech slipped past
East Juniata, 14-12. Quarterback Nate Blass keyed the Rams offense with a
10-of-17 passing attack and two scoring passes. Wade Truitt ran for 207 yards
and two TDs for EJ.
Lourdes Regional hammered Fairfield, 43-14, in a non-league contest as Billy
Chesney rushed for a pair of scores and Brian Dunleavy three for 155 yards.
Athens crushed Northern Tier League rival North Penn, 42-7, as Shane Raupers
returned a pair of punt returns for touchdowns and Eric Wells and Ricky Young
returned interceptions for scores. North Penn out gained the Wildcats,
210-125, but couldn't overcome Athens' big plays.
Towanda used two Jake Lamphere touchdown passes and 97 yards rushing by Adam
Harris to fuel a 24-7 victory over Canton.
South Williamsport won for the first time, outlasting Troy, 20-9. Patton
Bartholomew (157) and Wade Morehart (132) combined for 289 yards rushing for
the Mounties.
Cowanesque Valley also found the win column for the first time with a 12-6
win over Montgomery. Cameron Wattles ran for two touchdowns and Anthony
Tammaro ran for 108 yards for the Indians.
In other games, Muncy knocked off Wyalusing, 27-9; Wellsboro pounded Sayre,
46-12, and Bucktail slipped past Freedom, 46-40, in three overtimes. Wyoming
Valley West kept Williamsport winless with a 41-7, win as legendary coach
George Curry posted the 400th victory of his career.
