PSAC Announces 2002-03 Wrestling Awards

Edinboro University's Matt R. King was named the 2002-03 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Wrestling Athlete of the Year following voting done by the league's coaches.  Edinboro's Tim Flynn was named as the Coach of the Year and Lock Haven University's Morgan Horner garnered the Rookie of the Year award.

King, a junior from Connellsville, earned All-America status for the first time in his career with his fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division I Championships.  His finish at nationals was the highest among PSAC wrestlers.  The 165-pounder finished the season with a 42-7 overall record and won individual titles at the Eastern Wrestling League and PSAC Championships.  He collected seven major decision and four falls, and had a 13-2 record in dual meets.  King is 89-20 in his Edinboro career.

Horner, a 197-pound redshirt freshman from Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., posted a 21-11 overall record in his initial campaign.  He earned bonus points in 12 of his 21 wins, registering six major decisions and six falls.  Horner had second-place finishes at both the PSAC and EWL Championships before qualifying for the NCAA I Championships.  At nationals, he posted a respectable 2-2 record, with his losses coming to the tournament's No. 3 and 4 seeds.

Flynn directed his Fighting Scots squad to a 10-5 overall record, including a 4-0 mark against PSAC opponents.  Under his guidance, Edinboro also claimed team titles at the 2002-03 PSAC and EWL Championships, marking the fifth time that has been accomplished in his six-year tenure.  Flynn has accumulated a 63-23-2 overall record and has coached 11 All-Americans.  He has won the PSAC Coach of the Year award four times.
