BLOOMSBURG WINS 62nd PSAC WRESLTING CHAMPIONSHIP

            (E. STROUDSBURG, PA): Bloomsburg University scored 149.5 points and notched two individual champions as the Huskies dethroned Edinboro to win the 62nd Annual PSAC Wrestling Championships Saturday night.

            Hosted by East Stroudsburg University at Koehler Fieldhouse, Bloomsburg took first place with 149.5 points, pre-tournament favorite Edinboro was second with 134.5, East Stroudsburg was third with 104.5, Lock Haven finished fourth at 87 points, and Clarion was fifth with 73.5 points. Rounding out the nine team field were Shippensburg placing sixth with 52.5 , Millersville seventh with 41.5, Kutztownn eighth with 39 points and Slippery Rock ninth with 35.

            The Huskies posted individual champions at 174 with Bryce Hasseman and at 197 in Chad Hoare. The Huskies had seven wrestlers in the finals

            Edinboro’s Nate Yetzer, who won at 165-pounds, was named the “OW” Outstanding Wrestler of this year’s tournament. He won at 174 last year and is a two-time PSAC champion. Edinboro also crowned Shawn Bunch at 133 as an individual champion.

            Clarion had two individual champions including Frank Edgar at 141 and Chris Horning at 157. Edgar defeated Brad Forbes of Bloomsburg 6-1 in the finals and ran his season record to 31-6. Edgar is a two-time champ, having won at 141 last year. Horning defeated Edinboro’s Matt Hill in the finals by a 6-2 margin. Horning, who was a runner-up at 157 last year, has a 20-4 individual record this season.

            Edinboro came into the tournament ranked  19th in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News and had won the three previous PSAC team titles, but unranked Bloomsburg won the team title by a 15-point margin. It was Bloomsburg’s first team title since 1990 and the 14th in school history.

            Other individual champions included Obenson Blanc (Lock Haven) at 125, Josh Medina (Lock Haven) at 149, Charlie Pienaar (Slippery Rock) at 184 and Stanley Foster (East Stroudsburg) at heavyweight.
