PIAA Board of Directors' Action

Saturday , May 12, 2001 im regard to the Wrestling Steering Committee

 

On a motion by Mr. Nemes, seconded by Mr. Kanaskie, it was unanimously voted to accept the recommendation of the Wrestling Steering Committee to adopt the 215pound weight classification, effective July 1, 2002, as provided for in NFHS Wrestling Rule 4-4-1.


On a motion by Dr. Vak, seconded by Mr. Kanaskie, it was voted to accept the recommendation of the Wrestling Steering Committee to authorize a two-pound growth allowance for each weight classification, effective January 15, 2002, as provided for in NFHS Wrestling Rule 4-4-5.
Motion passed: 15-yes, 1-no.

On a motion by Dr. Vak, seconded by Mr. Wabby, it was voted to reject recommendation of the Wrestling Steering Committee to discontinue team scoring at the PIAA Wrestling Championships.
Motion passed: 13-yes, 3-no.


On a motion by Dr. Vak, seconded by Mr. Kanaskie, it was unanimously voted to accept the recommendation of the Wrestling Steering Committee to adopt the 210-pound weight classification for junior high/middle school wrestling, effective July 1, 2002.


On a motion by Mr. Kanaskie, seconded by Dr. Vak, it was unanimously voted to accept the recommendation of the Wrestling Steering Committee to amend the junior high/middle school wrestling time periods from three periods of one minute each to three periods of one and one half minutes each plus a one minute overtime period and a 30 second tiebreaker period, effective July 1, 2002.


On a motion by Dr. Vak, seconded by Mr. Kanaskie, it was unanimously voted to authorize the Associate Executive Director to solicit input from the Wrestling Steering Committee and prepare bullet points for the PIAA Board of Directors' consideration at its meeting of Friday, July 20, 2001, relative to the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Wrestling Rules Committee's rule change which provides for dual meet competition to begin with the weight classification that is to be randomly drawn prior to the end of weigh-ins.


On a motion by Dr. Vak, seconded by Mr. Kanaskie, it was unanimously voted to accept the Minutes of the Wrestling Steering Committee, as presented by the Associate Executive Director.
