HERSHEY – The quarterfinals are now history and there are just two giant steps left to becoming a PIAA champion.
Team point leader heading into the quarterfinals, Central Mountain, three wrestlers are moving onto the semifinal round. Coach Doug Buckwalter’s Wildcats were forced to default at 135 pounds when Jordan Rich injured an ankle in his match against Canon-McMillan junior Nick Catalano. Rich then forfeited out of the tournament.
Joseph Marino of Garnet Valley put an end to Brian Brill’s title hopes, 8-6.
The skid was just two matches as the Altons were up next. Andrew wasted little time – just 24 seconds – pinning Norristown’s Brandon Parker. Dylan’s opponent, Jayshon Wilson of Carlisle managed to last the entire six minutes, but fell 17-7.
Buckwalter then saw his son, Tyler, drop a heart-breaking 1-0 decision to West Allegheny’s Troy Reaghard.
At 285, Zach Corl got a measure of revenge when he downed Jersey Shore’s Cody Mason 4-3. In the dual meet finale, Mason edged Corl 5-4. Corl’s next opponent is Susquehanna Township’s Averee Robinson (36-2).
In the consolation second round, Brill pinned Northern York junior Jared Ross to ensure at worst an eighth place medal. Tyler Buckwalter then dropped a 9-1 major decision to Upper Moreland junior John Bolich to end his season at 38-11.
WELL REPRESENTED – Every district, which wrestles in AAA with the exception of District VIII (Pittsburgh city), has a wrestler in Saturday morning’s semifinals. District IV lone semifinalist Spencer Myers of Selinsgrove meets District IX’s lone wrestler Sean Sadowsky of Saint Mary’s. Both Myers and Sadowsky are still unbeaten. … Both districts VII and XI have 13 in the semifinals with District III just behind at 12 in.
LEFTOVER FROM AA – Montoursville teammates Luke Frey, Caleb Lomax, Nick Dawson and Ben Cary went directly from the Giant Center to the Milton Hershey Medical Center on Thursday to see Will Page who was critically injured in a January auto accident.
“Will was tired from all the rehab, but happy to see us,” Frey said. “He should be coming home in two to three weeks!”
Page’s younger brother Cordell died from injuries sustained in the accident.
GET WELL WILL, we’re all pulling for you!!!
